Satellite Camps (mind if we crash on yo couch?)

So Rutgers answer to Michigan invading Jersey and stealing all their best recruits is to invite Urban and osu to Jersey and share a camp with them............I guess they really don't want ANY Jersey recruits at Rutgers.
Some Michigan fans are really getting salty about this because it's at the same time and 30 minutes from their own camp in their pseudo home state.

My favorite was the whine that ash needs to cut the cord.... you don't see Durkin and Jimmy doing everything together!!1!1

One coach got humiliated down the stretch, resulting in one of the worst losses to osu in ages (and should have followed a hideous loss to iu). He also bailed as the season ended and immediately tried to steal your franchise player and the apparent uncle of new jersey talent.

The other transformed osu with a suffocating, NC winning defense and would have played for another if the offense had done their jobs. He also held tight on that cord and stood alongside urban as their gaggle of prospects dominated the draft.

Yeah the burned bridge approach sounds like the way to go.

Just doesn't make sense from a Rutgers standpoint. If you're trying to protect your borders, why bring in arguably the top coach in the business and give him access to all your recruits. I get not burning your bridge, but don't just concede all the talent in your state just to thumb your nose at Harbaugh.

Urban has access to that talent because of what he is and what OSU is (especially together)

Jimmy did not, so he has to pay huge bucks annually to high school coaches to give them a boost. He also has to sleepover, climb trees and dp anything else to make Michigan relevant again.

Likewise, Ash does not have much access to that much talent but probably tags along with Urban at another camp or two.

There are no such thing as "borders" in recruiting, especially when you are Rutgers.

In any given year, Ohio State might take 2 or 3 top prospects from New Jersey, none of whom would've gone to Rutgers in any event. Chris Ash isn't trying to land those kids (although he certainly wouldn't say "no" if some local 5-star prospect for some inexplicable reason wanted to sign with him). He's trying to get the next tier recruit - the numerous 3-star prospects from Jersey, Philly, and NYC. If Ash's relationships with (national champion) Ohio State, (rock star) Urban Meyer, and (Rutgers legend) Greg Schiano can help him sign those kids (prestige by association), then he would be stupid not to play those cards. Ash has a very solid résumé that happens to include Ohio State, and it actually does make sense for him to highlight that fact, at least until he can establish himself at Rutgers.

If satellite camps are going to be a reality, then the Chris Ashes of the CFB universe are going to partner with those coaches and programs that they have the best working relationships with, and that best suit their own goals. Makes sense, no?

These camps are made for the Rutgers and Bowling Greens of the world. No one dreams of getting an offer at those schools (other than the overall dream of college and the nfl) and kids don't flock to their camps.

They do flock to osu's camps, which is why it was hideous to ban them because the sec is scared of a pretty minor part of harbaugh's influence. Most of the talent that shows up at osu camps has no chance of being offered by osu , but there are so many discoveries or lower tier offers for completely unknown kids. Those are life changing moments that happen because the little schools go to camp with the big fish like osu.

P.S. It is "highly questionable" if any intelligent people actually watch the above show (on ESPN).

Maybe it's like tagging along with your way cooler buddy to go bar-hopping. You won't go home with the prettiest girl there, but you might get to take home one of her friends.
It's tagging along with your celebrity buddy to get access to clubs and gals. You'd never make it past the bouncer and none of them are coming to your townie bar. Also, your buddy is gracious enough to let you claim it as your scene.

I can see the point. But with that line of thinking it would benefit Rutgers more to hold it at a different time instead of having these HS coaches that are rivals of Paramus Catholic telling all their players to go to the other one. Making them choose loses Rutgers the chance to see more kids. It's interesting how it all works.

Local schools hate Paramus. This is a brilliant double move. Ride Urban's fame (and program prowess) and make your camp the premiere destination during your honeymoon period at Rutgers.

Edit so apparently Maryland and others will be at the Michigan camp.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i..._nj_powerhouse_programs_unite_theyre_sup.html

The coaches at three of New Jersey's perennial powers make no secret of their rivalry on the gridiron, but suddenly they're united for a cause:

Bergen Catholic's Nunzio Campanile, Don Bosco Prep's Greg Toal and St. Peter's Prep's Rich Hansen are supporting Rutgers.

Hours after Rutgers coach Chris Ash announced his program would be joining forces with the coaching staffs at Ohio State and Temple to hold a satellite camp for recruits on the same day (June 8) that Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is hosting a camp 30 miles away at Paramus Catholic, the three rival coaches each told NJ Advance Media that they plan to encourage their players to attend the Rutgers camp at Fairleigh Dickinson in Madison.

RU to hold satellite camp at FDU

"I think it's a great response,'' Campanile said. "I think he's sending a message that this is our state. Listen, Michigan has a great program, but I don't think they should be setting the terms on how it's done in New Jersey. Rutgers is the home-state school, and I think we should all respect that. We should all respect the job that Coach Ash has ahead of him. I think that he's doing a great job. We're here helping him any way we can.''

Toal agreed, adding: "I got a ton of respect for (Ohio State coach) Urban Meyer and the Rutgers coach seems like a real gentleman. So I definitely would attend their camp for sure. I think there's a tremendous amount of loyalty to Rutgers and also to Ohio State. I'd love to attend their camp, and I'll try to bring my team for sure.''
... Continued
seems like it's working out great for everyone but michigan

Michigan's satellite camps are going international

Per Nathan Chapman of Pro Kick Australia, coaches from the University of Michigan will be the featured guests at a satellite camp in Melbourne, Australia on June 3rd.

.
Pro Kick Australia is the organization that helped produce former Michigan punter Blake O'Neill and Ohio State punter Cameron Johnston as well.

Seems like a huge resource suck to get a punter. I say go get 'em Jimmy!
