Satellite Radio (XM, Sirius, and Stations) MERGED

I used to work at best buy and XM radio gave their portable Myfi (made by delphi) to any employee who wanted one. I pay $9/mo. XM has MLB but no NFL. they also have a contract with the big ten so tOSU is on XM. I am not sure about Sirius. XM also has PGA tour radio which is only cool if you are stuck on the road for awhile, because it is quite boring to listen to. As far as the music goes the selection is awesome and there are no commercials which is great. My guess would be only 40-45 minutes per hour are music on tradidtional radio. Not all models of players are portable. The Myfi is. I have seen a commercial for a portable Sirius player also. However, the reception is not great when the unit is not plugged in to its signal booster. It is like putting a dish network satellite dish in an ipod so unless you have an unobstructed view of the SW sky it sucks. This is still first generation tech. so I assume it will get better with newer models. I can hook it up to my receiver, my car or carry it by itself as if it were an ipod. I can also record 5 hours of music so if I am in the subway i just switch to what I've recorded (no signal down there). My guess is that either XM or Sirius are better than traditional. Hope that helps.

Like I said, I love Left of Center on Sirius. I don't know if XM has a comparable station, but if you like indie rock, LoC has all you could ask for.

They have a really good DJ in the morning - Jake Fogelness. He's funny and irreverent and tries to stay out of the way for the most part. The chick that's on after him though - Reno - I just want to drive to NYC and kick her in the fucking throat. I'm sure she's a nice girl and all, but she gives a review about every fucking album before she plays a song - telling me how "such-and-such band's third album was by far their most commercially and critically successful release, but people like me who saw them play before that album heard their quirky, floating melodies and whimsical lyrics about falling in love for the first time or being the shy kid in class, and know that their early material holds it own if not surpasses their most famous stuff..." UGH! Just shut the fuck up and play the song! I'LL decide if it's any good! She has a way of talking about music that makes me change my mind about songs I like.

Sorry about the rant.

You are correct.

I have Sirius and love it. I'd definitely get it if I was you.

CAN'T believe NOBODY has mentioned BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE. I've liked him since the early/mid nineties when he had a stint in C bus. He's been in Tampa for a LONG time now and he kicks ass! Partied with him once or twice (I can't remember LOL!) when I was in Tampa Bay.

I don't know anything about XM, but I got Sirius. Thanks to all who helped me out. After driving to Erie, PA, then to Buffalo and now back home, I don't know how I ever lived without it. I'll be switching through channels, and suddenly it'll beep at me, saying that I'll like the song over on this other channel. When did my stupid car radio ever do that? NEVER!!!

Note: if you tell your Sirius that you like the Rolling Stones, it'll beep at you every 5 minutes, because channel 98 has decided to be the Rolling Stones channel.

You chose wisely. You'll like it more and more every day.

That's one of my favorite features. It's great for sports events b/c you don't have to go searching for your team on all of the channels. When the Bengals, Bucks, Red Wings, or Pacers are on, the radio lets you know immediately, and you're a push of the button from listening to the game. Make sure you tell Sirius to activate channel 198 (The Playboy Channel). Most of the time it's lame, but there's a pretty good call in show in the afternoon with Tiffany Granath.

Just wait until you have to sit in a car with someone who doesn't have satellite. You have no idea how quickly you'll be annoyed by the shitty quality and the commercials.

Agree with everyone so far, I have Sirius and when I am in a car with regular radio I what to strangle myself. It is some of the best $$ you will ever spend. The music is great and commercial free and they have Howard, Bubba, Ferrel and about 10 sports stations including NFL radio, ESPN radio, etc. Buy it.
