SBC is now the official sponsor of the OSU-Michigan game..

Yeah, CleveBucks confirmed the absence of the SBC logo from the field and player/coach uniforms. My comment was that regardless of whether there are logos pasted everywhere ot not, it's still a disgusting situation.

It will never end.

There are somethings that should remain pure. College Sports should be one of those things. Now with big dollars in the NFL and NBA, and to a lesser amount NHL, and MLB the amaturism of College athletics has taken a bit of a hit. Players going to school not to give it all for alma mater, but rather to get exposure to go play at the next level. College agent, Booster scandles, poor recruiting practices, and other negative images and stories have hurt what I believe should be a timeless and sacred event.

With Bowl games, even the Rose Bowl selling out to the highest bidder it made me sad, but the bowl games really have nothing to do with the universities and many of the great bowl games retained their name, and could continue to feed the university.

Some would say that the swoosh was another kick in the groin, but their had always been brand makers on the uniforms. We use to use Champioin as our uniform maker. Nike just changed where the logo went. It didn't bother me that much.

This however is where the line should be drawn. Ohio State vs scUM should remain nothing more than Ohio State vs. scUM. It should really stop here. They have sponsorships of all sorts of things they can sell, but they have now attacked the name of The GAME, THE GAME. It is unacceptable.

I hope public out cry grows, I hope Andy gets so many emails that he decides it is a bad thing. I hope Buckeyes and Wolverines alike cancel their subscriptions to SBC. I know I am going to. This goes to far.

Why not put sponsors on the Flags. This holding penalty has been brought to you by Edward Jones. Why not put logos on the field? Why not put a Motorist insurance logo on Archie's retired jersy in the North endzone. Why not change the endzone to say the buckeyes presented by Budweiser. Why not do script Nationwide instead of script Ohio. Why not change the Woody Hayes facility to the Coca Cola Atheletics building. Why not replace the O in the middle of the field with a big $ for sale sign.

It must stop somewhere, and I think we have reached that point. I am genuinely outraged at this stupid idea. I am going to scream bloody murder everytime I hear about the SBC scUM Ohio State classic.

College sports is a business, I get that no matter how much I hate it. But it should be a business with a soul. Selling out everything you can is a horrible thing for Universities to do.

If they are going to allow this, then just let the players get paid endorsement money and let's get it over with.

But none of us represents a tradition that is so important and treasured to so many people.

It just cheapens the tradition to me...something that was priceless was suddenly put on clearance

I see your point completely but that doesn't mean I have to like the trend...

Break out the corn for this one, but its almost like we as fans are now forced to share that great game with everyone else since it is corporate now. Corny yes, but still a fact that what was once ours is now everyone's

complete agreement grad.....

i dont like it either....and it would be nice to say no to the deal....but a million dollars is alot of money....most especially when your competitors are already taking it....

it sucks....but it sucks less than saying no to the deal...

This is our football revenue from school years 98/99 through 02/03--$180,152,800

This is our athletic dept revenue from school years 98/99 through 02/03--$369,648,170

I just don't see how $500k is really worth it to sell sponsorship rights to a game that's damn near as old as the telephone itself. I guess this is progress.

But for a cool million, we could put little SBC logos on the helmets instead of buckeye leaves. :)
