  • Birm says he is the most impressive quarterback he's ever seen at a 1-day Ohio State recruiting camp
  • Davis is making his second visit to Ohio State this week
  • Visiting Ohio State again so his father can come with him, he feels like he's a priority recruit, has friends on the current roster, and looks forward to continuing to build a relationship with the coaches
  • He sat down with his dad before visiting opened back up to identify his top five schools (Birm misses the obvious follow up to identify what those schools are)
  • He appreciates that he has extra time to review everything as a member of the '24 class who is already identified as a top prospect
  • He wants to go to a stable environment with coaches, his mom prioritizes education, and he is interested in campus atmosphere
  • Identifies Evan Pryor and Jacolbe Cowan as the players currently on the team that he is close with... he is starting to build a good relationship with CJ Stroud
  • He was with Coach Dennis the entire day during his first visit to Ohio State, they broke down film of how he would fit in the offense, he got to drive the golf cart around campus
  • Birm asks if the coaches have discussed their plans for '23 QB recruits--he has a good relationship with Quinn Ewers and Caleb Burton and has met them at camps--the coaches indicated that the plan would be for him to sit a year behind Ewers before taking over in his second season
  • (it sounds like they are planning to "skip" the '23 QB class based on this--presumably going after a kid willing to play the long game on development, or go after a transfer)
  • Davis talks about how no true freshman are really prepared to go in and start right away at Ohio State, because if you "go in and crap the bed, people don't forget that"
  • He mentions the coaches highlighted Burrow, Haskins, Mahomes career paths to him; that all the greats sat at least a year or two before starting
  • He has no problem sitting and developing as long as he is being developed by the right people
  • Birm asks about his connection to Justin Fields-similar size and trains with many of the same people-says he doesn't talk about his connection to Fields much with his trainers although he has been told they have a similar throwing motion
  • Justin Fields is his favorite college quarterback, he watched all of his games
  • Birm asks what separates Day as a developer of quarterbacks
  • Mentions how the coaches kept it real with him, gave him pointers to improve, he watched more tape at Ohio State than anywhere else, including the Clemson loss and practice tape on what separates guys like Fields even in practice
  • Points to Day's track record with quarterbacks as something that separates him
  • Birm mentions he is the only QB in the '23 or '24 class attending the recruiting BBQ this weekend, it makes Davis feel like a priority--he says that Quinn Ewers will be there as well and he looks forward to developing that relationship--Coach Dennis specifically told him that they wanted him to be the only '23 or '24 quarterback there
  • Birm asks about being a recruiting leader in the class and his commitment timeline--Davis doesn't have a timeline in mind, but he does think about how an early commitment from top QBs can influence a class
