Seattle WR Mike Williams (official thread)

I could possibly see the odds being no better than 50-50. I think the NCAA will use this opportunity to hang him out to dry as a lesson to the next sophmore that decides to chalange the rule. They did not let the Tennessee WR back into school and he only took a few hundered dollars before he changed his mind. I think he should be allowed to go back, but the NCAA does not have a record of being understanding to these situations.

If he didn't hire an agent the odds are very good for his return,IMO. If he has hired an agent-too bad. The NCAA will be hypocritical if they do not allow him back if he didn't sign w/ an agent, because that is the exact rule they have for hoopsters-no agent-welcome back.

dixie-how did you come up w/ your monicker? It sounds like a cool alt-country/southern rock band.

I don't see the money as an issue...I remember reading something about a legitimate adopted family in Florida. I'm sure reimbursing Mike's money will be a wise investment. The summer school shouldn't be an issue either if he gets in gear.

IMHO, I just see the NCAA wanting to get this over with and move on to other issues.

How can the NCAA forgive signing with an agent?
IMO, this will be viewed as a special circumstance since the court ruling opened that window. Assuming that MW's lawsuit has been dropped, I would venture to guess there were discussions between the NCAA, USC, and MW that we may never know about.

68.4% chance that he will be back. For the NCAA to let him back they need to overlook the agent issue and they need to also overlook the fact that MW was told the ramifications of his decision to declare beforehand. MW was also told of the NFL's intentions to pursue the original decision in appeals. Those are some big issues for the NCAA to overlook, and they will need some good spin if and when they let him back. As far as a whipping boy that the NCAA will use to teach others a lesson (so to spek), I think they have that with MoC.

Hummm ... I gave him about a 10% chance of returning before this announcement. I do agree with the thought that he MUST have conferred with the NCAA before this announcement, so now I'll upgrade my chance at return to 30%. I hope for you USC guys he gets the opportunity to play again. He really seems like a decent person, athlete and student who got caught up in an odd circumstance. BUT, he knew what he was doing AND the risks. I don't see the NCAA taking the chance that they could set a precident with this decision. I believe they (and the NFL) are in the process of correcting the "holes" in the barriers they had in place. Sorry to say, I think everyone gets made an example of this year ... including Williams.

I am optimistic because it appears that the Athletic Department and possibly even the Administration have been in contact with the NCAA throughout this process. During his dinner speach in Torrance last night, coach Carroll also expressed some guarded optimism, and he also mentioned a "progress toward degree waiver" that was issued when Mike left school before the start of the spring semester, rendering Mike academically eligible because he was in good standing prior to his departure. This was of course total news to me, as it was not reported in the media and the internet when Mike left, indicating perhaps that we still know very little about this entire matter.

By the way, Coach Carroll also added that the NCAA is his #1 institution.
