SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

My personal theory is the other conferences woke up and started spending money which has lead to the "brain drain"

And within two years it'll swing back in the other direction. Butch, Gus, Jimmy Mac and "Ole Miss Interim" will likely be fired and you'll see those schools throw gobs of money at the top names to get things back on track.

You guys will get a chuckle out of this:
Rumblings on ATL sports radio list the Vols top four candidates as -

1). Chip Kelly
2). Bob Stoops (!!!!!)
3). Gruden (naturally)
4). Jeff Brohm

One of those has a legitimate chance to be hired. They are totally overlooking the best assistants in American to sign a big name.

Something I tend to agree with:

The league has suffered some really big "brain drain" over the past three season.
You could argue that it's one of the weakest collections of head coaches in all P5 conferences. AD's making conscious choices to hire awesome recruiters rather than awesome coaches.

Never thought about it like that. I know a guy that would fit right in.

a big part of the coaching problem is the Alabama effect.

every fan base wants to do what Bama is doing.
even though realistically, maybe 4-5 schools in the entire country can ever hope to pull that off.

but the masses start screaming and AD's start chopping heads.
and there just ain't enough top flight coaches to go around.

and when you fire a guy for not being as good as Bama, you eventually end up with Ed Orgeron

Or Mike Riley.

Ole Miss retiring Rebel the Bear, adopting Landshark as official mascot

For the third time in less than two decades, Ole Miss is embracing a new mascot.

MagnoliaStateLive.com obtained a letter from university president Dr. Jeff Vitter in which it was announced that Rebel the Bear, the current mascot, is being retired and will be replaced by the Landshark. The move comes a week after more than 80 percent of the school’s students voted in favor of the change.

The new Landshark mascot is expected to be unveiled before the start of the 2018-19 athletic seasons.

“Upon learning of the [Associated Student Body] poll of students, we sought input from the executive committees of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, the Staff Council, the Faculty Senate, and the Graduate Student Council, as well as from the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Spirit Squad head coaches,” a portion of the president’s letter read.

“In each case, the support for the Landshark mascot was unanimous. In addition, the past presidents of the Ole Miss Alumni Association and the boards of the Alumni Association and M-Club enthusiastically endorsed the action of the Alumni Association executive committee.”

Colonel Reb was officially retired as the university’s mascot in 2003. Seven years later, students voted for the Rebel Black Bear as the new mascot over other choices that included the Rebel Landshark.

And, for those who were wondering…

“I want to state unequivocally that we are — and always will be — the Ole Miss Rebels,” the president firmly stated, no doubt referencing some who would like to see a new nickname to go along with the new mascot.

Should have gone with him from the beginning:

In the last 4 years of coaching changes I've been wondering why someone didn't give Kirby Smart a go. No guarantee of a home run, but he brings a championship culture and recruited at the highest level (not to mention the rings he can drop on the coffee table). He wasn't even on any schools wish list until Georgia went for it.
In the 2 years leading up to Smart going to Georgia:
Florida brought in McElwain. Oregon State, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Pitt did some fucked up coaching circle jerk. USC had an Ed O, Clay Helton, Sark, Clay Helton fiasco. Texas hired and fired Charlie Strong. L'ville took a risk on Petrino. Not to mention schools like LSU jumping the gun a season earlier could have easily landed Smart. They knew they were going to fire Les for a while. Some good hires in there as well, but so much recycling of coaches that didn't work somewhere else. Go back another year and you can find even more stupid hires (Butch Jones!!!)
