Serious System Error (Blue Screen of Death)

ScarletInMyVeins

Tanned Fat Looks Better
I've been getting the blue screen a lot lately and can't figure out why. It only seems to happen in the middle of an internet session. I previously had this PC hooked up to my tv and recently moved it to another location in my apartment. When I did that, I installed a wireless network adapter and a lexmark printer. Those are the only two changes that I've made, and I can't see either one of them being the cause of the problem. Is there anyone out there that can help me? What additional info do you need? Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with a wireless adapter i recently installed. I'd be browsing the internet and a few minutes later the screen went blue. I downloaded new drivers off my friends computer and installed them on mine and that fixed the problem.
So go ahead and try that and see if it helps.
Just go to the companies web site and click on support. They usually have drivers located there.

If you can't find them there check out driverguide.com

Good luck.

Yeah a driver problem for the wireless card can definitely cause blue screens. But it can also be a stick of memory going bad. Are you running XP?

I went to the motorola site and downloaded the latest drivers and it still happens. We had this same problem on another PC before I got this one. I'm running XP Media Center.

we dont even know if its the card or not, whats the error? if you submit the error to microsoft they will tell you what it is

When I do one of the "report error to microsoft" things it just says that a device driver is causing the problem and that there is no user action to be taken. I guess they just don't know what the hell is wrong at the moment. The next time it happens I'll post the error message. I could post the error log from the administrative tools if that would help.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight

Anyway, if you could possible post the error code or something that we can work with, can definitely tell you more. If that is all you had changed, I would honestly try removing the wireless card first, and see if it goes away. If not, you could have a stick of ram going bad.

Actually I would need the savedump file to be able to tell you what's going on exactly. It should have saved a dump log in c:\windows\savedump (something along those lines). If you could attach the log file here or something, I can take a look at it for you. I would still have to say it's the wireless card if it started after you added that. A printer wouldnt cause a blue screen.....or at least I have never seen that happen. Any way you can remove the wireless card just long enough to test it out and see if the problem goes away?

I could, but the only time the problem occurs is when I'm on the internet. If I remove the adapter I won't be able to get on the net and I don't have a long enough ethernet cable to reach from my router to the pc.

I'll look for the savedump file and post it if I find it.

No it should be in C:\Windows\Dumpsave or C:\windows\savedump. Cant remember which. If it ONLY blue screens when you are online, I would have to say it's the wireless card. That would be the only cause for it to blue screen while on the internet.
