Seton Hall Series @ Port Charlotte, Fla. (FIRE BEALS)

a little info on Seton Hall...

DEVITO, DANA NET PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST HONORS
Story Links
NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named Preseason BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, and sophomore Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) earned Preseason All-BIG EAST Team honors on Tuesday. Collectively, the Pirates were picked to tie for second place in the seven-team league by the conference's coaches in the preseason poll.

DeVito becomes the third Pirate in the last seven years to be named BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year joining Jon Prosinski (2013) and Luke Cahill (2015).

DeVito is coming off one of the finest baseball seasons in recent memory for a Seton Hall pitcher. The tall right-hander was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and to the All-America Second Team in 2018. In BIG EAST-only games, he led the conference in ERA (0.75) and wins (four), while ranking second in opposing batting average (.176), third in strikeouts (40) and fourth in innings pitched. DeVito was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times last year, and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week once. On April 21, he scattered just four hits over a career-high eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts at Butler.

As a freshman, Dana made an immediate impact for the Pirates, leading the team in home runs multi-RBI games, and ranking third in slugging percentage. His seven home runs tied for eighth in the BIG EAST Conference and are the most by a Seton Hall freshman since Mike Groppuso belted 11 in 1989. Among several standout efforts, Dana reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored in the early game vs. St. John's on Championship Sunday of the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament on May 27.

St. John's is the preseason favorites to win the BIG EAST championship in 2019, receiving 36 points and six of seven first-place votes. Seton Hall and Creighton are predicted to tie for second, and received 25 points each. Creighton netted the lone remaining first-place vote. Xavier finished just one vote behind the Pirates and Bluejays with 24 for fourth place. Butler, Georgetown and Villanova round out the poll, receiving 17, 13 and seven points respectively.
