Seton Hall Series @ Port Charlotte, Fla. (FIRE BEALS)

Very encouraging opening day. Clean in the field and our projected ace showed up and delivered. And then veterans in the pen were able to close it out. I thought it was a bit of a panic move by beals to bring in smith to close it out, tho. I know it’s big to get that opening day win, but you gotta let the young guys get a chance in tight spots. Oh well, I’m probably overreacting since there will be plenty of opportunities for the youngins in the coming weeks.

8-16 in advancement opportunities today. That’s very good for us. We’ve struggled mightily for years in advancing base runners...mostly due to Ks and approach, but guys did a good job putting it in play today. Speaking of Ks...They’ve got to break up that Cherry, Romans, Dezenzo grouping in the lineup, IMO. You can’t have guys like that hitting together can you? I mean..Romans and Cherry Struck out in nearly 40% of their ABs last year, and they’re hitting back to back? Go Bucks!

Yesterday my wife and I were dropping off my son's car at the Buckeye Lot (across from Bill Davis Stadium) after having some work done on it. Had the following exchange:

Wife: "We shouldn't have come this way, I didn't know there was a baseball game today"
Me: "Baseball game?"
Wife: "Yeah, the sign back there said "Baseball parking $10"
Me: "I think it said 'Basketball'"
Wife: "I'm pretty sure it said 'Baseball'"
Me: "Sweetheart, it's February. In Ohio"
Wife: "Oh, yeah"

lol

Freshman RHP Garrett Burhenn made his collegiate debut. Not too shabby

His fantastic line: 8.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 0 BB

Lonsway yesterday
Burhenn today..

Me likey

Wow. Been many years since a Buckeye pitcher put up a line like that. Did it on just 79 pitches.

Dingler was pulled from yesterday’s game and didn’t play today. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Todys has filled in nicely, though. May not be able to keep him out of the lineup.

Hopefully Vance can keep it rolling tomorrow. I’m greedy and want the sweep.

Stat of the weekend...Seton Hall surrendered 14 BBs. 9 of those came around to score. We only allowed 3 BB.

We didn’t hit particularly well overall, but we did do a good job of moving guys over and getting a few timely hits.
Defended well and obviously pitched very well. FGCU tomorrow and they got some thunder in that lineup, so that will be a challenge. Smith was scheduled for tomorrow but he threw 38 pitches Friday in relief, so I’m thinking maybe Gahm starts tomorrow? Just a guess but Gahm is either starting tomorrow or is unavailable based on the fact I haven’t seen him on the lineup card this weekend. Root, Brock, or Niekamp are a possibility as well. Sure is nice to have all these options. Still no word on Dingler but I’m guessing we won’t see him tomorrow either.
