Lighty Says Six Are Strong
By Dave Telep National Recruiting Director
Date: Feb 24, 2005

David Lighty, a wing man from St. Joseph High in Ohio, tells us who is on him the hardest and what position he’s most comfortable with in college.

Lighty sees himself as a shooting guard at the next level, feels he is even with Dequan Cook as far as talent. Feels he plays his best when he is in the open court, in transition.
Lighty is listing tOSU, Scum, Michigan St, Syracuse, Florida and Arizona as offering. He feels, tOSU, Scum and Syracuse are recruiting him the hardest.

I don't see why not. One would play the 2 and one would play 3. They arent in the recruiting servcies as the same position. If they could bring in these two and two big men, maybe raymar morgan and someone about 6'10" it would be awesome.

its quite possible that Harangody wil be the big man in the 2006 class. cook and lighty to osu would be a minor miracle. osu still has to convince them that they wont be sitting out any ncaa tourneys first.

I don't like our chances in a hoops recruiting battle with the 'Cuse, given our NCAA investigation and their recent NC, but I'd love to be wrong.
lighty named cuse his leader a while back, but has since backed off that. i dont know if that would be bad or good for osu.

Man this is devastating news for the kid. I really think it could be a great time for Matta to make up some ground and stay close to the kid and follow how he is doing, b/c I don't think that an ACL injury these days compares to what it used to be. If he stays off it for a good 6 months he could actually come back even stronger.

From Bucknuts...David has torn an ACL. Michigan and Ohio State are aware of the injury. Lighty is still considering Ohio State, Michigan, Syracuse, Florida, North Carolina, and Arizona, and had a chance to watch the end of the OSU/Illinois game last weekend.

having suffered 2 ACL tears (same one) its a shame to see this happen. the sad part about this is that it may end up working in osu's favor in that schools like 'cuse or zona may back off a bit, whereas osu probably will not. best of luck to him in his recovery. as long as there wasnt any serious cartilage damage or any damage to the MCL or meniscus, he should fully recover.

By Kyle Lamb
Date: Mar 9, 2005

One of Ohio's outstanding athletes has suffered an unfortunate injury. Junior David Lighty of Cleveland VA-SJ has suffered a torn ACL. Kyle Lamb caught up with Lighty to discuss the injury.

Bucknuts learned this afternoon that Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela-St. Joseph's star David Lighty had to go in this morning for an MRI on his knee from an injury suffered in Friday night's District final game. The results were not good.

We spoke with Lighty early Wednesday evening, and he confirmed the worst-case scenario.

"Yeah, basically they said I tore my ACL," a very disappointed Lighty said. "I'm really bummed."

Lighty, who averaged nearly 24 points a game this season, suffered a fall in the 3rd quarter of Friday night's game, and continued to play on it despite the pain. Over the weekend, he realized it might be something worse.

So this morning, Lighty went in for an MRI, and that's when he learned of his fate. Thus far, he's had the chance to talk to very few people about the specifics.

"Michigan and Ohio State know about it, but that's really about it since we just found out this morning," Lighty said.

The unfortunate injury to Lighty gives the Division III race in Ohio suddenly an open invitation for Cincinnati North College Hill, led by O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker, to have a clear path to the championship, with Villa Angela-St. Joe's being without Lighty and Richard Semrau's Lutheran West team being eliminated already.

Lighty, who still is thinking about Ohio State, Michigan, Syracuse, Florida, North Carolina, and Arizona, had the opportunity to watch a little bit of Ohio State's upset victory of Illinois on Sunday.

"Yeah I saw the end of it, what a great game," Lighty said. "It was really great. They (Ohio State) played perfect at the end. It was an awesome win."

"I guess I was a little surprised, but I knew they could pull it out," he added.

Lighty will return to the doctor within the next week to find out whether or not surgery will be necessary. Right now, he's tentatively expecting to be out between four and six months before a full recovery.

We will monitor the situation.
