SF Jae'Sean Tate (2018 2nd team All B1G, Houston Rockets)

TATE TO NBA? It looks like Kaleb Wesson ain't the only Buckeye who's going to be joining an NBA roster in the very near future. Jae'Sean Tate could be coming to an NBA court near you.

Jae’Sean Tate — Sydney Kings

The Ohio State product had a massive year in Australia after a solid 2019 Summer League and is just 24 years old; as such, he’s quickly become one of the most highly-regarded players based outside the U.S. Notably he hasn’t re-signed in Australia for 2020-21, with signs pointing toward him signing an NBA contract instead.

Tate is listed at just 6-4 but has a strong frame and plus athleticism; he is comfortable battling in the paint and actually played power forward in Australia. His 3-point shot (40.5 percent in Australia last year, just 27.7 percent in college) will be the swing skill for him.

"... he is comfortable battling in the paint and actually played power forward in Australia."

Oh hell yeah, give this to me. It's been a long time since I've heard an opposing fanbase lose their mind at how a 6-foot-4 forward is annihilating their 7-footer in the post. I didn't realize how much I missed that hilarity.

According to a report from RealGM.com, and confirmed by others, the Houston Rockets are expected to sign Tate when the NBA's free agency period opens on Friday. Tate, who played in Belgium and Australia the last two seasons, would be joining a Rockets team that is going through a transition with a new head coach and new general manager.

JAE'SEAN TATE AGREES TO DEAL WITH HOUSTON ROCKETS, KEITA BATES-DIOP AGREES TO DEAL WITH SAN ANTONIO SPURS IN NBA FREE AGENCY

Tate, who played for the Buckeyes from 2014-18, has never played in an NBA game but was a first-team All-NBL selection last year while playing for the Sydney Kings in Australia. His head coach in Sydney, Will Weaver, is now an assistant coach for the Rockets.

Jae’Sean Tate’s NBA career has begun.

Tate, after beginning his professional career overseas, inked a three-year contract with the Houston Rockets. It’s reportedly for just above the minimum salary. Wesson went undrafted last week and has begun looking for a team but hasn’t made any decisions yet.

On Tate: “I don't have to say to anybody listening to this call how special of a player and a kid Jae'Sean Tate is. He embodies so much of what you want in a competitor, a teammate. He has taken a path that, if you go and you look at NBA rosters right now, you'll find guys that have been in the league for five, six, seven, eight years that have taken a similar path to Jae'Sean Tate, But it's usually guys like him that have the stuff that is required. He's got tremendous work ethic. He has NBA defensive versatility, there is no question. I'm thrilled for him. I just got done texting him. I love him as a kid. I think he's going to have a long career. He's going to have to prove it like everybody does. I'm 100 percent convinced he's going to have a long NBA career.”

Just sayin': The NBA minimum ain't "chicken feed"....
