Let's be honest, OSU is a forward-heavy team this year and very light on guard talent, to the point where it may be better to find a way to play a forward like Tate some at guard to get your best 5 on the floor more often. They only have 2 PG types on the roster to start with, so they need to plan now on preparing someone who isn't a PG to be able to fill in during an emergency. We also don't know that Beverly as backup PG this year will for sure be better for the team overall than Tate.

Personally I have felt that there was enough physical talent on the team to win a little more the past couple years, but the players just weren't coached well enough, changes that should have been made just didn't happen. I can't blame Chris for trying to get as much as he can from his best player this year. Frankly, it would worry me more if Chris wasn't interested in making changes.

NEW YORK - Entering the 2017-18 basketball season, Ohio State has had to piece together its roster with a number of transfers, walk-ons and even early enrollees.

Even though the roster is complete, though, the Buckeyes are still thin in their backcourt thanks to the departure of JaQuan Lyle and transfer of Braxton Beverly.

C.J. Jackson is the only player on Ohio State's roster that has experience playing the point guard position in a scarlet and gray uniform, which has put pressure on senior forward Jae'Sean Tate to learn the position to add depth in the backcourt.

First-year Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann said Thursday at Big Ten Media Day that Tate, who has made a living in his time as a Buckeye in the post, will be playing more on the perimeter this season for the Scarlet and Gray.

"We're obviously really thin in the backcourt. I think C.J. has done some really good things in practice," Holtmann said. "Jae'Sean, he's been learning what we expect from that position. He's never played it before. He's going to need to play it this year and he's going to need to play it effectively for us. I think he'll slide more on the perimeter than he has maybe at any point in his career."

I am not concerned about his ass as much as I am about both of his shoulders. He is a physical type of player and that just concerns me. I hope he can get thru the season without any damage.

This guy might just blow up and turn a lot of heads. I watched him away from the ball against MSU a couple times. Great energy.

Guy can stroke a but from outside now it seems. His development has been sweet; should only improve as the season progresses as his confidence grows.

Guy deserves it. So awesome to see.

Jae'Sean is a great basketball player, he can make a very good salary overseas after this season. But if I'm him, I think long and hard about playing football next year at OSU, especially because he could fit in well at a couple of positions where there may be some significant PT available for someone with his abilities. I feel like he could make a lot more $ in football as he has NFL size, strength and athleticism, but it's a tough decision whether the risk of CTE and other lifelong impairments is worth the additional financial reward.

I do not know about going towards the football with his shoulders not being very good. I know that surgery is supposed to heal an injury but they still there. I think he should take his basketball skills overseas and have a good life free of pain. My only wish for him is that he stops taking those 3 pointers this season unless he makes the first one and then he can shoot a second one but that is it unless he makes the second one also.

@LitlBuck you have a good point, if his shoulders are not completely healthy he has good reason to stick with basketball.
