SF Jae'Sean Tate (2018 2nd team All B1G, Houston Rockets)

What a great couple of days for Thad Matta and the Buckeyes. Very excited to have Tate in the fold.

It's pretty amazing how different the feeling about the program is now as compared to what it was 2 days ago. As Thad said on NLOID; he knows what he is doing.

Re: KBD committed to OSU

JaeSean (the Beast) Tate and Trevon Bluiett are high on our list, both are top 15 small forwards.
Yea, let's go get JaeSean Tate!

Matta's going to have a team in 2014-15 that is LOADED with long and athletic wing players - Ross & Thompson as Seniors, Loving as a Soph, Bates-Diop and Tate as Frosh. Of course Scott is the Sr PG and Amir/Trey as Srs inside, and of course Killa Kam the high scoring Soph SG. A highly regarded PG and C should look at that and think this team is made for them.

4 year player with good upside. He's a quick jumper and good defender. Has a pretty good feel for the game with obvious room for growth. I don't want to act like I've seen him in person, but from his videos it's obvious he's still really raw.

Pretty herky-jerky type game. I like his build though and especially like his quick twitch athleticism. Not a jump through the roof take-off like Sam Thompson, but a really quick jumper. I think his handle could use some work, but I have a feeling he'll be one of those guys who can guard 3 positions on the court and maybe 4. Really fiesty.

Lazy comparison off top of my head right now is Ronnie Brewer. Great defender, capable offensive game, can get easy buckets around the rim and help chip in on the glass.

One thing that stands out to me about Tate that may not be the case with some of the other highly rated wings Thad has landed is it seems Tate really embraces the physical aspect of the game and is not going to shy away from contact. He could be another David Lighty type forward

No. 43 junior commits to Buckeyes
November, 20, 2012
By Dave Telep | ESPN.com

The Ohio State Buckeyes have had a significant 48 hours of recruiting. Thad Matta?s group accepted a commitment late Monday night from ESPN 60 small forward Jae?Sean Tate (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central). Tate is ranked the No. 43 overall player in the junior class.

On Sunday, the Buckeyes had landed No. 27 overall junior Keita Bates-Diop (Bloomington, Ill./University). It?s clear the Buckeyes are already on the verge of piecing together a strong 2014 recruiting class.

Tate had visited Columbus unofficially a number of times this fall. Over time, he?d developed a deep relationship with Matta, one that proved to be vital in allowing him to feel comfortable enough to pledge. Tate also considered Michigan and Iowa.

?Out of all the schools that were recruiting me that offered, I loved them all, but there was something about coach Matta,? Tate said. ?I could look in his eyes and know that he was telling the 100 percent truth.?

Love Jae'Sean's game. With his size and athleticism, he can do some real damage in Thad Matta's offense, and maybe even more so on defense. DZ mentioned a comparison to Lighty, which I like. With his left hand and the way he moves with the ball inside the 3-pt line, he also reminded me a little of Michael Redd.

Either way, a great start to this class with two very promising young players.

Now Thad, let's get Okafor, Lyle, and Jones to round out this class!
