Towns is calling on Buckeye Nation to help his family get back on their feet. The Towns family has created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds to make ends meet. Here is the message from the GoFundMe page:

While Pastor LB Towns would have preferred being in church on this past Sunday, he and his wife instead was seen hugging all 16 of their children just a little longer, thanking God that not one child lost a life due to the tragic fire. It goes without said that this family is in great need of support from a audience worldwide, and what other way to gain that support then here. While finances are beneficial and appreciated a house to call their own is that, “Great Need” I was referencing. The expenses of 3 hotel rooms per night (on day 3) goes without said is extremely expensive. In speaking with the children all they want is to be in their home, in their room and with their own belongings. As you can see per the photo that the family is still smiling and acting silly while posing in the hallway of the hotel they are currently staying at. The family expresses their gratitude for the outpour of support thus far from family and the community. I personally would like to thank YOU in advance for providing a selfless act to our father as we have seen him do the same for others. Love the Towns Family

SETH TOWNS TO HAVE BACK SURGERY, EXPECTED TO RETURN IN THREE TO FOUR MONTHS

The injury bug has bitten Ohio State forward Seth Towns once again.

The Buckeye basketball program announced Tuesday that the sixth-year senior, who transferred from Harvard ahead of the 2020-21 season, will undergo back surgery "soon," and is expected to return this season within three to four months.

When Towns returns, he won’t come back as the Seth Towns of old that we saw take over games at Harvard. He is 23 years old now, and after knee and back surgeries it just isn’t going to happen. Even the most optimistic person can see that Towns’ best basketball is behind him. But writing him off completely, or “giving up” on the 23-year old super senior from Columbus would be a grave mistake.

Speaking strictly in basketball terms, this is not a surgery that should keep Towns out for the entire season. The Big Ten Tournament Championship would wrap almost exactly six months from today, and according to every report I've seen from both the athletic department and the team itself, they fully expect him to recover in three or four months.

Towns can still contribute, too. When he returns in December, Chris Holtmann will not put him in a game just so that we can all “feel good” that he made it back. Towns will only see the floor if he can actually contribute and help this team win. At 6-foot-8 and almost 240 pounds, Towns has proven that not only is he a solid rebounder off the bench (he grabbed five, seven, and six in Ohio State’s final three games of the season), he also has a butter-smooth jumper that he especially likes to knock down off the glass.

The Columbus native fulfilled a childhood dream by becoming a Buckeye last year, but only after being robbed of two seasons of college basketball and possibly his best days on the hardwood. The knee injuries that plagued Towns at Harvard are the kind that turn an optimist cynical, and they were not finished haunting him by the time he got to Ohio State.

Crueler still for Towns is that upon his knees finally feeling healthy this offseason, he was quickly dealt another setback. This time, it was a small herniated disc in his back that required microdiscectomy surgery. The recovery process threatens to sideline Towns for at least the first month of his sixth year of eligibility.

“It’s tough. I could write a book about this shit honestly,” Towns said Tuesday. “But you just got to take it day by day and can’t get too down because hope is still alive, hope is still there. Honestly, the chances are really high for me to have a good year.”

When Towns graduated from Northland, he left the Vikings as their all-time leading scorer at 2,018 points and headed to Harvard to play for Tommy Amaker despite landing an Ohio State offer during his junior season. After averaging 12.3 points per game as a freshman, Towns blossomed as a sophomore and averaged 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to earn Ivy League player of the year honors while helping the Crimson win its sixth league title and reach the NIT for the second time in program history. His season ended with a right knee injury, however, and it would be 1,014 days before he would again take the court in a Division I game.

Towns could still play another year.

“He and I had conversations at the start of the year and said let’s see how this plays out,” Holtmann said. “He’ll make that decision at the end of the year based. He may want to come back and play a full healthy year especially understanding the numbers we lose at those forward spots.”

When healthy, Towns “obviously great shooting, really good feel at a 6-8 versatile forward. He rebounded a little bit better than we thought (last year). His defense has to continue to grow and improve, but he wasn’t 100% healthy last year. His knee has felt the best he’s ever felt. It was his back this year. Once that gets fully healthy and his knee continues to improve like it has, we’ll continue to see really good things from Seth.”

Ohio State's Seth Towns to return for final season with Buckeyes

The 2021-22 season marked the fourth-straight year Towns has missed extended time due to an injury.

If healthy, Towns can not only add his experience to a young group but attempt to get back to the player he was at Harvard, one that was an All-Ameican and Ivy League Player of the Year.

Just sayin': That's the big question "if healthy".

No way to say this without throwing shade, which really isn’t my intention. I think the fact that he is coming back says a little bit about this program. Assume this means we can’t land a better prospect via the portal? I mean, I just don’t see a player in the situation that Seth is in who returns for a 7th year to a blue blood program very often.

I’m rooting for the guy for sure. And I trust Holt, just wondering aloud if this is really the best thing for the program? That’s a fair question and one that is perfectly acceptable to ask. Maybe Ht just doesn’t think we can do something better with his roster spot?

Yeah, I think that exact thought ran through all of our heads tbh. I had mixed feels when I read he was coming back. On one hand, he is a Columbus kid that when healthy can score and definitely contribute. When he was healthy, he was a huge boost for us. Butttttt...he is never healthy and if that trend continues, it is a roster spot that could have gone to someone else. If Towns is healthy and plays at his previous form he did for us when healthy, then nobody will be complaining. But if he is out all the time like usual, people are going to be asking questions. If one of Ahrens or Meechie don't jet, maybe the spot wasn't there for him. I don't really know our numbers situation, but having two guys that played a lot of minutes leave would leave the room you would think.
