SF Seth Towns (transfer to Howard)

I think it's a no-brainer to happily welcome back Seth Towns. Obviously his health is the unknown quantity, but if you're an optimist about that not being an obstacle, he clearly brings needed shooting skill to this team. Perhaps his injury absence this past season was partly because of him wanting an extra year of college for free. I think that was a factor, plus not wanting to compete with EJ for minutes, and I don't believe injuries will be a problem for him next season.

Veterans are typically your better shooters. You don't want to plan to rely on freshmen to be efficient from beyond the arc - Branham excelling at it is all the more evidence that he is a very rare talent. Veteran shooting skill is an absolute must for an efficient college offense.

I’d rather take the risk on Towns than a transfer that could be a potential locker room issue if things didn’t go their way. If his injury woes continue, at least you have a guy that can be a team leader and mentor the young guys. Now that’s not saying that Holt didn’t miss out on some better options. I just think there’s a risk/reward that had to be considered.

Yeah, that's kind of like saying "I don't think it's gonna rain in Seattle any time soon."

Sure, anything can happen, but the precedent is wet.

That said, I have no problem with Towns being the 12th man on our bench or whatever, and if by some miracle he can stay healthy and get close to 80% or whatever of his peak form, he'd be an actual asset.

I just hope our staff isn't counting on him for anything and are recruiting the portal accordingly. It has been a little too quiet with the frontcourt transfers and OSU.

“I don't believe injuries will be a problem for him next season.”

Based on what?
Jardy reported that he's completely healthy now. I'm not sold that his health was that bad this past season that he couldn't have played at some point if he really wanted to. I think he put playing on the back burner partly to put himself in a position where he didn't have to compete with EJ for minutes.

SETH TOWNS "STEPPING AWAY" FROM OHIO STATE FOLLOWING FURTHER MEDICAL SETBACKS

Seth Towns' Ohio State career appears to be over.

The Columbus native and veteran forward announced Sunday he's "stepping away from Ohio State and Team 124" and will not play college basketball this season following "a few setbacks this summer and some tough conversations with my coaches and medical personnel."

With Towns stepping away, the Buckeyes now have an open scholarship spot for the 2022-23 season.

May God bless you and keep you young man. He's been nothing but a class act and professional the way he's handled every possible obstacle he's had to face. At some time in all of our lives we have to give up the game that we love because life takes control. I hope everything he tries for in life he succeeds at getting it. O-H!
