Ohio State has offered 2015 SG Austin Grandstaff of Rockwall (TX).

Interesting offer. Don't know much about him, but his description sounds like he'd be a Diebleresque type of contributor. My first two thoughts about this offer were one, the odds of getting Kennard may not be very high and two, staff must not be that big on Aherns because if Kennard is making a decision soon, I thought Aherns might get an offer if Kennard verbals elsewhere.

Very confused by this offer. Hedging against losing Kennard? I need to see some more recent film because I don't see a Top100 kid there.

This is more recent and shows a kid who is a) quite a bit taller, thank goodness b) has a little more to his game than just hoisting threes c) can involve his teammates, even at the high school level.

Still would like to see him finish with the left...just once.

Everyone has him in their top 50, so if all he can do is shoot, he must be extraordinary at it. I am not against an offer for a top 50 shooter. He doesn't have Kennards all around game right now, but it sounds as if everyone is saying its improving and he seems to be a more consistent long range shooter.

Well, it is two-thirds of the way through the Junior year of these kids. Can't hold off on offering worthy players if you don't have a commitment at a position of need. You may be right with your suspicions on Kennard, but at the same time I don't want to believe that Kennard is likely to go elsewhere so I will choose to believe this is the OSU staff being proactive and doing their due diligence. Certainly even after the OSU staff has gotten commitments, they have gotten decommitments, so I can't blame them for offering guys like Grandstaff while they don't have a verbal even if they like their chances of getting Kennard.

I know Kennard's plan of action has been widely reported (deciding sometime between spring and summer this year) and I'm sure Grandstaff is not expected to make another commitment before Kennard's decision is supposed to come down, so I don't see this putting any real pressure on Kennard to decide earlier although that is the common recruiting tactic, offering a number of guys at one spot and saying they will take the first to commit.

Oooo... yeah, that's really apparent in that film. Had half a dozen chances in that film to use his left rather than his right and went out of his way to use his right when putting it up off the glass... even so far as to do a reverse lay-up so he could use his right rather than his left. That's fixable, but not good. He cannot and will not be able to get away with that in the B1G.

I don't disagree with anything being said about the offer and Kennards status and I have absolutely no info on the matter. I do however believe that if the staff felt comfortable that Kennard was going to come to OSU, this offer would not have been made. I don't think it means the Kennard ship has sailed, but I do think it shows the staff isn't sure what Kennard is planning to do.

Maybe Kennard is not quite sure yet what he is going to do either. I have no idea when teenagers of today around their selection of colleges make up their minds which one they want to attend.
