New Buckeyes: Hardman puts injury behind him, focuses on OSU career
Q&A WITH BOWEN HARDMAN:
Q: You committed to Ohio State over two years ago. The time has come to move to campus and enroll. What are some of your thoughts right now?
Hardman: “I am very pumped, I have been waiting for this for the last two years to just get on campus and start working, get into that atmosphere there and just get my journey started.”
Q: What are some things you’ve learned about Ohio State since committing and what were some of the things that pushed you to pick the Buckeyes?
Hardman: “The first part definitely watching the past two year of OSU, knowing what I knew when I got there. Knowing that they want high profile guys who can do a lot of big things and making an impact not just winning but with the team and there are great guys there no matter what. Like I said, it has been a long journey and a long time watching and finally getting to count down the days; it’s exciting. I have seen them grow as a program and there are a lot of great guys coming in this year.
“And, just seeing the hard work and dedication of guys there already this season. So, it is definitely exciting and I am super pumped. And, like I have said in my interviews before, it is my dream come true to be in that type of atmosphere and that type of program.”
Q: Who have you kept in contact with there and what have they talked about in terms of a role?
Hardman: “I would say my main contacts have been Coach Diebler and Coach Pedon I was really close to. But those are the two main guys.
“The biggest thing that they talked about during our last call is about coming in and making an impact whether it is just practice, if I get redshirted, so no matter what being a good role player in my first year is the biggest thing. Essentially, just working my butt off to get stronger and better.
"Their biggest emphasis was, ‘Hey, we need a guy like you to come in that is hardworking and can do a lot of things and your time will come.’ The biggest thing is coming in and working hard.

2022-23 season bump
* 15 Bowen Hardman, 6-3, 175, freshman – Hardman, a product of Cincinnati Princeton High School, was slowed by an ankle injury during his senior season. He still averaged over 10 points and shot 32 percent from long range. He is likely to redshirt this season.

STARTING FRESHMEN STRUGGLE ON OFFENSE
Holtmann started two true freshmen against Chaminade, as Bruce Thornton and Brice Sensabaugh got the nod in their first-ever exhibition games at Ohio State. In terms of efficiency on offense, though, both left something to be desired.
Roddy Gayle had the best night of any Buckeye freshman on offense, knocking down 6-of-7 shots to finish with 14 points and a plus/minus of 41, and Bowen Hardman silenced some doubters with a 12-point performance on 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
But Holtmann said Hardman, a three-star prospect out of high school, is “just not physically ready to compete at both ends."

He has elite touch. I think he’s got a long ways to go physically, but he has an elite, elite ability to make shots. He’s got a quick trigger. He’s got a pretty release. He’s got good size. That’s been a really good thing, and it’s honestly helped us in practice, too.”

Bowen has been a good teammate & student. Not shocked he's decided to transfer - being at the same position & in the same class as Roddy Gayle has a way to make minutes hard to come by, and he didn’t play at all in a lot of games as a Sophomore. Plus his coach got fired. Good luck to the young man.
