SG Luther Muhammad (transfer to Arizona St.)

Everything from his movement, handle, pause dribble, ability to finish at rim or hit mid-range. He reminds me of Ben Gordon.....that’s a good thing.

Very solid comparison. He squares himself up perfectly on his shot.

One thing he will have to work on is that dribble that will be called a carry in college a lot. This is not uncommon with younger players now a days as it isn’t called on them much.

unless you play for north carolina. man their guards would literally take 2 steps between dribbles

His shot needs a little tweaking. Setup is fine, gets decent elevation and has good arc, but the rotation looks off. Could just be the way the ball is sitting in his hands.

Good all around player, just needs to hone his skills.

muhammad has been a career 40% shooter from three and 80% behind the arc. i do agree that he needs to tweak his shot... like craft tweaked his.

diebler was a mid 30% 3pt shooter in hs. He didn't become a 50% shooter by keeping everything the same. His release and rotation could be better to improve his consistency (was 8/34 in his first 12 games last year, then had games of 5/5, 6/11 and 7/10). you figure your percentage goes down 5-7% just by facing bigger, more athletic defenders. Being a 40% shooter in college will require improvements and fixing his release will be a simple one.

Look at the rotation of the ball and tell me what you see.

not exactly. though diebler shot 35% from 3 as a high school senior, he shot 46% as a sophomore. if i remember correctly, he shot over 40% as a junior. high school averages don't really work for jon. anyone who watched him play as a senior would know that 35% is misleading without context. the kid was regularly shooting jump-back 3s from 25 feet or pull-up 3s from 30... all the while facing double- and triple-teams. he was insane. diebler shot better earlier in high school career mostly because of the attention that his brother drew. as a senior, though, he was the primary, secondary, and tertiary focus of defenses.

listen, i'm not saying muhammad's form isn't ideal. it does produce a bit of a knuckleball. the form stands to get better. however, turning a knuckleball into a spinner doesn't happen by way of a minor tweak.

Luther is coming in at a perfect time in the sense that as OSU is losing Tate, they needed someone to come in and be the athletic energy guy who brings toughness and makes hustle plays. OSU has been fortunate to have a number of those type of guys, it seems like they have always had at least one per season - dating back to 2005-06 with Je'Kel Foster, then Lighty 2007-11, Craft 2011-14, Tate 2015-18. Luther is next in that line.
