I also have to side with Thump on this one. Upon first look at the picture I was able to identify it as the GGB. Of course, there was a very slim chance that it was some other bridge, but based upon the color and design of the bridge and on the type of land beside it I was able to make a educated assumption with high probability of being correct. Correct enough that I would have wagered it was the GGB and I am a very risk averse individual.
Ditto.

International orange was renamed Golden Gate Red b/c they were the only bridge in the world to use that color.

Am I the only one that watched that show on the Bridge that can corrroborate this?

BTW, I not sure how to pronounce discredited in Petorian.
when you watch a show about the golden gate bridge dont you think you are a little more informed than the average joe?

im not in a pissing match.....i just find it extremely hard to believe that the average person can look at that picture and say "oh, thats the GGB in the background" when thats all of the bridge you can see. no doubt the GGB is a very distinguished bridge, but with the tiny portion in that picture i dont see somebody looking at that and saying its no doubt 100% the GGB....with all of the bridges there are in the world.
If you look around the pic. you can tell. The small amount of brigde is a pretty good indicator just due to the architecture and color, but the the landscape, and the land in the background are all very familiar.

I knew it was that bridge before watching the show.

Just told you about the show to tell you that's the only bridge in the world that color.

I'm going to try to find a link for you about the color b/c I haven't been able to find it as well.

Maybe it was on the History Channel I saw it.

Gentlemen, is it really the various properties of the Golden Gate that indicate that this is a fake? Perhaps everyone should take another look at the picture.
We didn't say that's the only reason.

BN27's sticking point is how anyone can assume that is the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

That's why we're having this discussion.

BN27,

Show that pic to people at your work and ask them what bridge they think that is in the background, I predict almost 100% of the people would say the Golden Gate Bridge.

ill give that a try.....but my drawing attention to the bridge will make them think of a famous bridge and the most famous bridge is the GGB so that will automatically be their answer.

my whole thing is that just looking at that picture....not knowing there is anything wrong with it....can you just say "well thats fake cuz thats the GGB in the background, not some bridge in south africa"? is it really that noticeable?

Thump,

We need you to prove the Golden Gate Red issue. I've checked on both www.wikipedia.org and on www.goldengatebridge.org (see quote below) and neither of them mention international orange being renamed Golden Gate Red.
WHY IS THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE PAINTED INTERNATIONAL ORANGE?

The Golden Gate Bridge has always been painted orange vermilion, deemed "International Orange." Rejecting carbon black and steel gray, Consulting Architect Irving Morrow selected the distinctive orange color because it blends well with the span's natural setting as it is a warm color consistent with the warm colors of the land masses in the setting as distinct from the cool colors of the sky and sea. It also provides enhanced visibility for passing ships. If the U.S. Navy had its way, the Bridge might have been painted black and yellow stripes to assure even greater visibility for passing ships.

If you guys can't find anything then I guess it's just my word against your searches and your searches win.

I would have guaranteed that you would have found something but I'm having trouble finding it as well.
