Should the Buckeyes be ranked?

The Coaches Poll is out and a number of 3 loss teams are now entering the Top 25. Bowling Green looks like the next in and the Buckeyes are sitting at 29.

Do you guys think this is a fair reflection of the team? If Miami loses again this week and we win at Purdue, are they still better than OSU? If we beat UM, where do we belong?

Losing three in a row, the not so appealing style of play, and the blowout at Iowa stick in the minds of the voters. I can't say I agree with the ranking, but I also don't feel the need to complain about it either.

True. However, if we beat Purdue, and scum, we can claim we should be playing for the NC, just like USC in 2002. It didn't matter that they lost earlier, they were playing great at the end of the season. We will have won 5 in a row.

I'm happy with where we are at the moment. There is still a lot of football left--not necessarily a lot of games but some tough games. Unfortunately, a win in West Laf will be overlooked. Its that final game of the season that would jack us back in the top 25. I have confidence in this team and Tressel's ability to find a way to win. It would be nice if he took the handcuffs off of Troy Smith, but I'm sure he has his reason. IMO, we haven't done anything to prove we're top 25 yet. Hopefully that will change. We need to go into scUM without them having an excuse. All of our wins, since Iowa, have had an asterik by them. It was Indiana, Penn State is struggling, Michigan State had a hangover, etc. This week it will be Purdue can't snap the skid. We won't get the respect until we prove we're legitemate.

Sarcasm will get you everywhere Buckzip! :slappy:

Just check out the power ratings and schedule rankings for some of the teams rated above us. For instance, Bowling Green has a schedule rating of 141, and they are still 7-2.

I agree about the three losses sticking in minds. Perhaps it's the fall off such a lofty perch. Perhaps its all the Luckeyes stuff coming back to haunt us. Personally, the thing that sticks in my mind is that "almost Cooperesque" melt down in Iowa, when they didn't show up to play. I thought they might have just given up right there.

In my mind, the winning recipe is to keep Ross out of the game. He is not producing. And to give TS a chance to open the offense. But I fear we will see just enough to get by until The Game.

In any case, I still wonder if we don't have a case for a ranking at #25 given what I see in the various power ratings.

I think that just about sums it up. I guess we take 'em one at a time and in Tresselspeak "see what we deserve".

I could care less about ranking right now, but to answer the thread question, being in the "top 30" out of 117 teams in both polls isn't too bad considering how we played at Iowa. Keep in mind that we've played #4 Wisconsin as close as anyone has this year and actually could've won that game.

I think that if we go on the road and beat Purdue with a solid effort, we crack the top 25. Granted, we stunk it up a while back, but if we can bounce back and put together 4 wins in a row, I think we deserve to be in the top 25. After that, we've got to beat the weasels to get any real love.

If we win out we will be top 15.

I don't see this handcuffing stuff. Troy overthrew a couple of guys and he is the one that decides to tuck the ball and run it unless it is a QB draw..Once he gets comfortable with the receivers (this could be next year) then we really be scoring some points and moving the chains!

I don't care about rankings either. I just want to see the Buckeyes in a Bowl Game. I still think that eliminating mistakes and executing better will quiet the critics. Tressel calls the plays and the players have to start executing better. Tressel calls pass plays and alot of times the receiver drops the ball, the QB misses the receiver or the QB doesn't go through the progression to find the open receiver. Penalties, dropped passes and missing open receivers due to the QBs inexperience is a big problem. I think the Bucks will only get better and become a great team the rest of the year. :)
In my opinion, Tressel is slowly giving the QB more plays to open the offense. I think he is doing this slowly for now and playing to win the best way he can. As the QBs become more acustumed to the offense, Tressel will open up the play book. I think he is also doing it this way to give the QBs more confidence instead of risking interceptions and the QBs getting down on themselves. :wink2:

Rankings don't mean much to me neither, especially the Pre-season stuff. I felt we were way too high at the beginning of the season, especially with all the unknowns to start with. If we finish with two wins - whether we win big or scrape by - we should end up 15-20. With that miserable streak in the middle of the season, there's not much chance of finishing higher. At this point, just playing some good football would give me something to cheer about.

It will sort itself out, but -

- if the pollsters take the time to look at our three losses they include two to teams in the top 20 and a road loss in OT to another team with a winning record. Not quite the melt down it seemed at the time.
