Just saw the first episode, and it was pretty good. The reviews are really high. It's at 91 on Metcritic with 28 reviews.

I won't ruin it, since the first episode sets it up pretty well. Yet it's about a CIA agent and a Marine that was in captivity for 8 years. That is about all I will say, the first episode will clear up the rest. Yet so far I am into it. Plus Morena Baccarin gets naked (the chick from V).

I'm not sure if I want to watch this series. Given the subject matter the potential to push too many hot button topics is strong.

Fixed that for ya.

Yeah, I only did the nerd version. Not the ultra nerd version.

For the record, I can't stand Joss Whedon and his Whedonverse. For me, it's sci fi soap opera. I have tried to watch his stuff, and I like sci fi. Yet for some reason all of his stuff just comes across as way overacted soap opera drama.

I've enjoyed most of the things he's done. I didn't watch Buffy initially because I just figured it was aimed at teen girls...but I started watching a few episodes several years in and discovered it was surprisingly well done so ended up going back & Netflix'd the seasons in order. I never really watched Angel because AFAIWC the story had run it's course in Buffy.

I absolutely loved Firefly. Serenity felt more like a two hour TV episode than
a motion picture and I think it lost some of charm that made Firefly stand out to me.

I even liked Dollhouse if for no other reason than it was willing to touch on topics that no other show would come close to...and it was much better put together than two shows which seem to be popular but I always thought were pretty crappy (Dark Angel & Alias).

Okay so I was turned onto this show by a buddy of mine, and I watched the entire first season (12 1hour episodes) in 3 days. Absolutely fantastic show in my opinion. Top notch acting (Claire Danes and Damian Lewis especially). Going to start watching Season 2 this weekend.

The SNL skit where the dude was explaining to be nice to white people in NYC after the hurricane because they can't watch Homeland was hilarious. ("this is the worst thing that's ever happened to white people")

And, unfortunately true.

It has been a good season so far outside of Dana's whole story line. I simply don't give a damn about his little brat. Her story better link up in a significant and interesting way. So far it has only succeeded in bringing each episode to a screeching halt and feels like complete filler.

Is Brody still a different rank every time he puts on a uniform?

Pretty much. No one has called him "Gunnery Sergeant Brody" yet, so I'm not sure what that is all about. What I found strange about the show is that his wife calls him Brody to. Why would she call him by his last name if they've been together for years & years ?

If you notice, whenever he's in Alphas his service stripes change as well.

When it happened in the pilot I just chalked it (rank) up to changes in the script during production, but when they it continued throughout the season it became a serious 'WTF?' issue to me.

On a more general note is it really that damn hard to give actors playing Marines an actual regulation haircut? I'm not even talking high & tights just get the hair off their damn ears & neck.

One of the writers learned about the 'Corps mainly through The Great Santini?

I dated a girl for awhile who referred to me almost entirely by my last name. In her defense we met through a female type Navy Corpsman I knew and the first few times we met were at parties where she heard everyone else refer to me that way.

This is such a great show. Season 2 is really blowing the doors off, it'll be fascinating to see where they go from here.

SPOILERS

Clearly, they aren't looking to do some sort of 24 super predictable storyline, so you'd think at some point they'll change things up. Regardless, I was pretty stunned when they "broke" Brody, and then when that assault team killed everyone at the end of E05. Can't wait for tonights follow-up, as long as they keep the Dana storyline to a minimum. So absurd.

I really didn't think they were going to find out, and flip Brody this quickly. I figured that would have been a finale type ordeal.

I thought, after my initial shock, that it really made sense. He's really been conflicted about his role in Nazir's plan, all the way back to the decision not to press the button in S1. You have to know at some point Nazir will make another run at Brody, convince him to show his loyalty somehow.

The writers of this show are fantastic, coupled with the unbelievably great performances from Danes/Lewis, cause me to trust that the season will continue to be incredible.
