Signing Day '08 Discussion

The only 18 year old that I'm pinning my hopes and dreams on is that mail order bride that I just ordered from Thailand. She'll be signing her letter of intent soon.

Interesting. Got mine from the Ukraine. Greyshirted her the first year. Still platooning her, though. Doubt she'll get drafted.

Has there been any buzz about other '09 recruits getting offers today? I know that JT has extended offers on past NLOIDs to juniors, but maybe that's changed since juniors seem to be getting them earlier now.

Good question...I think there may be an offer or two going out this weekend...hint hint.

I think this goes here.. Can't believe how bad its getting up North. I thought they had a decent day too...

11:51 a.m.

Nasty Side Of Recruiting
This is where recruiting gets nasty. Detroit defensive end Nick Perry just announced he will sign with USC, and a few Michigan fans have begun flinging insults at Perry on their message boards. On TheWolverine.com, fans have called Perry names that won't be repeated here and accused him of accepting gifts from USC.
Some more rational fans have responded by telling their buddies to cool it, but the few have besmirched the reputation of the many. Obviously, most Michigan fans -- or fans of any school, for that matter -- never would think horrible things about a teenager trying to chart his future, but a couple of crazies make everybody look bad.

Things aren't all rainbows and lollipops on some Buckeye boards either...

Folks, please stop with the Pryor stories in this thread...I am beyond sick of asking.

Can we please get back to discussion about kids that signed LOIs today?

That is good stuff! Very diverse signing class.

Tressel eluded to the fact that they are still actively recruiting a QB several times without mentioning Pryor by name, however schools are only allowed to communicate once a week with a recruit here out.

Tressel also stated that to make this class complete they need a QB.

Now that the day is over and and the majority of recruits have signed their letters I am looking back on some of the rankings at the differnt sites and honestly, we seem a little under rated. Rivals has us at 8, Scout has us at 6, but look at the size of our class and the quality of player that we got. I understand that the numbers and rating system are up for debate, but look at all of the guys that we signed (on Rivals) that are a 5.9 or higher....those are some quality guys and I think they stack up with any class up there.
Sure programs like Bama can bring in 33 guys, but is that really a good thing? I think that the staff did a great job with the class this year and brought in good character people that are going to represent us well for the next few years.
Thoughts?....

I don't put too much stock in 'recruiting service class rankings' and what tools like Tom Lemming think. All I need to know is that Coach Tressel and his staff are recruiting intelligent young men with good character and outstanding ability. This is most definitely a class to be very proud of.

Ah yes...quality, not quantity! I agree!

In a way, yes that is a good thing. Some of those guys will never set foot on campus (for a variety of reasons). The bigger class gives them depth to help combat that. Where as LSU with 25 guys signed, we're a little thinner if we lose a few for whatever reason.
