Silas fired?

I just heard it on the radio? WTF
I thought he was doing a good job. I didn't like his offense, but he was a good coach. The Cavs better hire a good coach and start winning or Lebron is going to walk when his contract is up.

I got this rumor at work (Co-worker's friend works in the Cavs). When the Cavs main site announced a noon press conference with a "major" change, Silas is gone.

Thank god and everyone will be happy once the dust settles. I believe what he called Boozer and the latest McInnis benching is what killed him. In addition to not being able to coach. Everyone saw this coming with the 2nd half slump and inability to win on the road. Especially with the ownership change.

what exactly did he say about boozer? I wouldn't think that had too much to do with his firing ... I had always heard that Silas' problems eventually all come back to poor communication. While it many people think about that in respect to the players, maybe this had something to do with poor communication with pax and the new ownership? This is shocking ... hopefully the team doesn't just fold. Somebody is going to have to step up and lead this team.

So who should the Cavs hire for next season?

I like the Phil Jackson idea because he has been able to win it all as long as he has a superstar or 2. Don't know if he would come to Cleveland. That has to be one of the best openings this offseason though. I would rather coach the Cavs than the Knicks.

Any other coach ideas?

He implied that Boo$er was a cunt.

Flip Saunders will most likely be the next coach. He is from Cleveland and has worked in the Cavalier organization before.

Watching the press conference they are mentioning alot of things, but communication and indirectly saying that he is mishandling his bench and players. Silas's player rotations have been horrible!

In addition there are rumors that I am hearing that there was a power struggle. Once the new ownership group was found out Silas went on a campaign to get the upper hand on all decisions over Paxson. Seems like it backfired eh?

Man shit has just been going downhill for the cavs lately. I heard he had a closed door meeting with the team two nights ago. And then Jmac didnt play yesterday. They never said why. I figured some weird shit was going on. I wish they would have waited till the end of the season, but maybe they were not able to. Hopefully Lebron gets to choose the coach that he wants to bring in.

Why Flip Saunders? As far a I know he has never won anything and tends to lose in the first round of the playoffs. Can't they get a winner?
Flip is widely considered in NBA circles as a great coach. Yep, he never has won anything and last year he lost in the Western Conference Finals. But if your requirement is to get a coach that has won a title there aren't many out there and the one that is out there most likely won't come to Cleveland.

Sorry, Phil Jackson is a pipe dream. Minnesota wants him, Orlando wants him, New York wants him but does Phil really want to coach anymore? What does he want to prove? That he can coach the 3 best players in NBA history to NBA championships? I already think Phil Jackson is the most overrated coach in history... who couldn't coach Jordan/Pippen & Shaq/Kobe to NBA titles??? I just don't want him anywhere near here... I refuse to like him :)

You can watch the press conference on cleveland.com.

At one point Paxson says something to the effect of ... we thought we did the things neccessary over the offseason to add to the bench. HA! what a clown. There were alot of things about silas and his throwback style that I really liked, but I got the impression over the course of this year that he wouldn't be able to turn this team into a champ.

Regardless, the real dud in this organization is PAXSON. He's got to go as soon as the season ends and a new GM needs to be brought in. Whatever Gilbert does, he better make sure that somebody besides paxson is running the show when they pick their next head coach.
