so lots of great stuff at the FreeP about the "chip on their shoulder" and this time they really mean it.
9 months from now:

If I didn’t say it, then it would have been taken as I wasn’t confident in the game or my team. Like I said, it was a lose-lose situation. Every reporter has their own intentions.

Chip on the shoulder.. we really mean it this time...
Uh huh...
Rinse and repeat.

I remember one off season Rich Rod played the chip on the shoulder card

Henne, Hart and Long all came back for their SR season in 2007 because they really meant it that time

Has anyone done a regression analysis to determine the effectiveness of teams with chips on shoulders vs those without? Does the chip give you added motivation, or does it make you play unbalanced due to the extra weight of the chip on that side?

Then again, if one is going on a revenge tour wouldn't it have made sense to take chips with you? A revenge tour without chips just doesn't make sense. But perhaps that was the problem last year.

Doing a little more research, the site "Phrase Finder" gives the meaning of the phrase as: "a perceived grievance or sense of inferiority". So if the purpose of the chips is to demonstrate a sense of inferiority it all makes sens and we owe them kudos rather than laughter for coming to that realization.

Another possible explanation is that they are focused on snacks. Chips on one shoulder, dip on the other.

And of course, we could be talking about paint chips.

I'm wondering if what Harbrau is interpreting as the team "having a chip on its shoulder" is actually a bit of hostility towards him.... He only last 4 years at Standford and San Fran until they were ready to get rid of him. I'm wondering if he's reached that point where the players are tired of his schtick and antics and lack of results at ttun...

You need to account for and balance out the chip by wearing extra socks on the opposite side foot only. Then you're unstoppable.
