Let's just finally move on from this kid, he's been mediocre at WR, no where near what he was supposed to be in college. Time for Flash Thomas and Twash to start on the outside with Posey. Its sad, but games need to be won, this guys an adult and he knew what he needed to do.

also checked in with Ohio State about wide receiver/punt returner Ray Small, whose status for training camp and the start of the season is up in the air.

I interpret this to mean that there is still a possible chance that Raymond might play this season. So no, I'm not ready to 'move on' from this kid quite yet.

I'd lobby for a new nickname if my last name were Watson:biggrin:

In fairness to you, I'll assume that you didn't see the latest news update in the thread, with SID Shelly Poe's quote, since that was only 1 minute before your post.

I'm glad that Jim Tressel doesn't have your mentality when it comes to guys that are struggling, and I think it's a safe bet that virtually everybody on the team, as well as potential recruits, shares that opinion.

And in fairness to Ray Small, he did lead the conference in punt returns last year.

I am totally ready to move on , if it's not one thing its another with Ray . I remember last year when his dad was in the newspapers and saying how JT was purposely trying to have Ray's draft stock drop ( god knows why JT would want one of his own players to fail ) , so with all the talent we have at WR i say let this thug go back to whatever it is he does in Cleveland and let our young talent move forward .

No I didn't see that post, it was right after I posted my comments, which I stand behind. I wish at times he did have my mentality on guys who don't care too much about studying. It was pretty obvious last season when his dad was bad mouthing the coaches that he and his family have not cared too much about anything but themselves. There are tons of kids who take the same classes and are student athletes but can maintain the minimum GPA to be able to play their sport. And its nice to say that he led the conference in punt returns, but in all honesty Flash can do the same, as can James Jackson and countless other speedsters that we have on our team! I hope this kid gets his act together, but he hasn't done anything that spectacular in his buckeye career to get so many second chances, IMO

So, based on a person's on-field performance, he deserves more or less freedom off the field? Or, closer to your words, someone who has been spectacular in his buckeye career should get "so many" second chances? Personally, I would like to believe that Coach Tressel does not care about on-field performance when handing out punishments, when they are due.

(I have not followed any stories on Ray Small lately, and I am not saying that he needs to be on or off the team.)

Ok ok, I understand Zurp u cherrypicked one line from my post and tried to dissect, badly! I didnt at anytime say that based off of his on the field performance should dictate his punishments. Read the whole post next time instead of just one line next time. And generaladm, there aren't many youtube clips of him, because he has done anything! He made a nice run against a MAC team, come on now! I am not trying to bash this kid, so people please calm yourselves, I'm giving my opinion on a player that has been given 2nd chances, but still can't get his grades in order! I'm not saying this kid is a thug or calling him out of his name, but why r we giving chances to a kid that doesn't seem to understand the definition of STUDENT-athlete! I'm sure this kid is a nice guy off the field, and he may help old women cross the street. But he's also on a scholarship to an educational institution and he knows that he needs to have his grades at certain GPA to be able to play/practice with the team. Yet again, I sincerely hope that this kid can get it together and realize that he's also a student, but at the sametime if he can't get it together there several other WRs who can pick up his slack.

I have met Ray Small and his dad..... they are good people I want him to blow up and do well this year and in the NFL..... he is far from a "thug"

NFL?!?!? Seriously? That's like Jim Mora talking about PLAYOFFS! Ray needs to prove he can be a solid Big 10 WR before we start talking about the NFL! Personally, I think we are thin at that position (in terms of experience, not talent) and we could use him to step up and be a leader this year.

I said want.....not that he is ready. Read the post it only takes one year to get a chance in the league (ask Terry Glenn). I am not disagreeing that he has been disapointing I said I WANT not that he is......

I did read your post, and the majority of it didn't need any response. Did you want me to respond line-by-line? If so, I will in a PM because I'm sure that no one cares about my "agree" or "disagree" statements.

And if I disected it badly, show me how I am supposed to infer anything other than a correlation from on-field performance to "second chances".

I never meant to insinuate that if this kid had better results on the field he should be treated differently. And it seems like Small is constantly getting in trouble. Even though he's going to be a senior he's not someone that I would put in a leadership position for our crop of young WRs, I would bestow that role upon Mr. Sanzenbacher. Our punt return game didn't suffered much at all, we have enough speed on our team to more than make up for Small(if he indeed is not playing for us). He's made few big plays for us in the return game but not enough to notice if he isn't on the field, and he's a WR, yet no one has been able to give me a game in which he made a statement. Like I've stated before, I don't think he's a bad kid, just one that hasn't fulfilled his obligations of being a student-athlete. I hope he gets his grades together and can be able to graduate, but as far as on the field, he's VERY easy to replace in both the return and most importantly WR game. Spring games mean very little than to keep message boards buzzing. James Jackson, Chris Fields, Lamar Thomas, Duron Carter and Taurian Washington will be more than adequate enough to have us forget Small(that is if he doesn't play for us).
