Smith pays Clarett's cell phone bill

You know, the saddest thing here is that this was not Troy's problem to fix, but yet he is the one paying the price

Come on now, so you are saying that Troy was that naive? He wasn't able to see the swirl of bullshit that surrounded Clarett? I put the blame on Troy for getting involved with Clarett, the guy is trouble.

Mo C: "Yo man, I know I aint doing nothing these days that could keep me from gettin a job an all, but damn I ran up the bill again and can't pay."

Troy: "You what? Jesus, Mo. That's my mom's fucking credit"

MoC: "Dawg, I know. Help me out this once."

Yep- Damn Aviophobia.

Clarett wanted to be a Miami Hurricane

By Rusty Miller
AP Sports Writer

Maurice Clarett scores a touchdown vs. Michigan. His fear of flying probably kept him from attending Miami.

COLUMBUS -- If not for his fear of flying, Maurice Clarett might well be battling Willis McGahee for playing time in the Miami backfield.

This whole responsibility falls on MoC's shoulders, although Troy's mom should have been smart enough to know better than to sign for a cell phone for a 19 year old MAN who was not a direct relative, especially if she cannot pay the bill.

This whole thing is incredible. You couldn't write a more unbelievable story if you tried.
I still firmly believe that Troy should not be kicked off the team, but to say this wasn't his problem is a little extreme. We don't know exactly how this happened, and probably never will, but more than likely Troy convinced his mother to get the cell for Mo, and everybody knows, Troy included, that he shouldn't have gotten the money for the bill the way he did. Even if MoC told him to go there, Troy still knew it was wrong. He is responsible for his own actions, and therefore it is entirely unrealistic to say that MoC is 100% responsible here.

I still think this scenario is better, however, than Smith simply taking the money for himself.

Somewhere in the evil recesses of Clarett's mind - "Hmmm... I just told ESPN about all these problems. And no one has found any. Hey! What if I ran up a phone bill of Troy's, directed him to Baker and... boom.. now my story - and more importantly my credibility with the NFL - gets some teeth."

Don't get me wrong, taking the money made it 100% his problem.

I only meant that the original cell phone was not his responsibility. If MoC's credit was so bad that he couldn't get a cell phone of his own, I agree that Troy probably convinced his mom to sign for it, and if so, shame on her for falling for it.

It's not entirely implausible. Although, knowing that he can't (or won't) even do something as simple as pay a cell phone bill doesn't give him a whole lot of credibility as a mature, responsible, NFL-ready individual. I don't think I'd be willing to put the next 8-10 years of my organization on his shoulders, would you?

I'm just worried this is the tip of the iceberg with TS...

My mind just keeps going back to Smith defending MoC...

To be quite honest... I fell a little better as far as "Tip of the Iceberg" goes... while its still Troy's (And Troy's mom... to some degree's fault)... it seems to me that the further MoC gets away... the better.

Time line is all wrong... but I have a feeling that the bill was extremely past due by last spring...

Is this plausible?:

Troy: Yo, Mo...My mom's on me about that cell phone bill.

Mo: I got your money, bro....Go see Robert Q. Baker at so-and-so address...he owes me some money...he'll just give it to you.

MOre plausible is that Smith was talking to Baker, who was using his uber booster access to some function... Baker asked him if he had talked to Maurice lately.. (Everyone knows they were friends...) And Troy probably started complaining about MoC's deadbeat ass... and Baker offered to take care of the problem....

To say Maurice Clarett is a cancer seems too mild, but man does the analogy fit:

  • He gets into everything behind the scenes and by the time you find out it's too late.
  • He weakens the entire team by sucking up all the available resources which are now diverted to fighting him.
  • Even after you remove him from the team, you can find out he's spread to previously uninfected parts of the team.
  • It's hard to destroy the cancer without destroying the team.
  • His treatment has caused all my hair to fall out.
  • You're never quite sure it's the last you'll hear from him.

This is not good. Smith gets his mom to get MoC a cell phone. My question: how was that cell phone paid for? Did Smith's mom pay for it (I thought the Smith family did not have a lot of money)? Did someone give Smith's mom money to pay for it? Did MoC give her money to pay for it? Did someone give MoC money to pay for it? It looks like this may not be going away any time soon.

Remember, Geiger looked shocked when he learned of this and then stated that it lent credence to MoC's claims. This absolutely gives ESPN ammunition. I thought the Smith thing was not connected to MoC, but it appears to be. How deep does this stuff run?

What school did he decide not to go to because he didn't like to fly? (SOrry it a little early for those memory banks to be working... ) Whoever it was.. they need to send us a Thank You Card.
Pick one. Clarett had offers from every major university in the country by his junior year. I know he had told Bob Davie he was ready to go to Notre Dame while taking a visit his junior year. Davie told him it would help to go back to high school and graduate first. :tongue2:

From everything I've read, given his fear of flying, Notre Dame would've gotten him if Coop hadn't been fired - bringing in JT.

After hearing about this situation, I believe 100% that some of MOC's allegations happened, BUT due to his greed and lack of character, he went looking for handouts. No way do I believe it is going on with everyone on the team.

I believe it started with MOC and stops with him.
