So Who Would You Take?

Sorry Oiler, the Holding Cell is a forum that only the Admins/Mods can access. It's a place to put threads/posts that we don't want to delete, but have no other home. We don't really want to delete anything, so we put stuff there just in case need it in the future.
You might want to keep that exchange around in case for evidence in case they kill each other. I hope those two do not live close to each other.

I wonder if there is a body cooling as we speak...

I think Lou Holtz is available, Chief. Bob Davies, too. And how about that guy with the phony resume, can't remember his name, but surely he's done his penance and should be considered.

ND has tried the Jackie Sherrill route, then went the pretend-resume route, then made the PC choice... My guess is now they will try desperately to find someone who can actually win football games. So Urban Myer tops the list, because he's won a lot this year.

Good luck, Chief.

Sounds like the back of my wifes brain, she seems to store everything stupid I say there just to drag it up at a later time.

Back to the topic, it has to be Meyer. Anything else and the timing of Ty's firing would just be insane. Good luck to Ty in the future though.

First- Gruden and Shanahan are pie in the sky. (Heck- we were kicking Gruden's name around before we Hired Jim T.

At any rate... while Meyer is the sexy pick... and it seems most likely that he will get hired... if it really came down to Gruden and Meyer its a tough choice.

I don't know if either one can recruit.. Gruden's biggest college job was receivers coach at Pitt.... Meyer has been kind of bouncing as of late...

Obviously, academics are a big deal at Notre Dame... once again... neither has a long track record.

Each has a big plus I can see. Meyer's is his ability to win with the guys he gets when he comes to a job... (The "win with the other guys players" is less of a knock than it might otherwise be...and indeed its not like BG or Utah were sitting on piles of talent....)

Gruden's big Plus to me would be that he runs that old school 49ers west coast offense that has plenty of power running and he beleives in Defense, which I think would both translate better to ND immediately, and be more effective in regard to ND's schedule. (I've never been a proponent of that adage that the Domers play a harder schedule than anyone... but they sure do see a lot of different kinds of teams in a year. The great equalizer is tough D and kicking someone in the mouth.)

Either would give ND a recruiting bounce that Willingham didn't, so that would take care of itself... On the other hand, neither have ever been in the same place very long.

My personal preference would be Chucky... but I wouldn't call it a slam dunk either way.

I don't think they would ever higher him, but Jim Grobe would be a good pick for the job. He's coached at schools with high academic standards, molds his offense to fit his players, and has gotten the most out of Ohio U and Wake that anyone could expect.
