Sound Off !!! - Introduce Yourself

I was born in Fostoria and went to school with Damon Moore's father & uncles. I'm 47 years old and now live in Bowling Green but work in Toledo for an architect. I'm married to a fellow Ohio State fan (aren't we all?) My board handle is a play on my name. And I can't believe no one else had used my password!

I kinda followed the Bucks because my family did, from before I can recall. I really got into it when our Boy Scout troup applied, and was accepted as ushers for home games. I've been to over 50 home games, starting in 1971, and the Bucks have won all of them. On the flip side, I've been to four bowl games, and the Bucks have lost all of them. You'd think that J.T. would give me a call when he has some doubt about the outcome - pay me to come to home games, and pay to keep me away from bowl games. I try to make it to at least a couple games every year, if not more.

My favorite Buckeyes are Chris Spielman and Eddie George, because of their work ethic.

I started following the boards in 1997, and was a regular poster on the FansOnly board (now defunct). I think Bucknuts concentrates too much on recruiting. Even during the middle of the football season, a lot of the threads there are preoccupied with recruiting. I like a lot about the Ozone site, but I don't like much of the postings, no substance. In over 90 percent of the Ozone posts, and or, threads, the message is the title. If someone has something worthwhile reading, it will take more than the subject line to say it. After awhile, a person may not even open posts, assuming there is nothing there.

oops...I'm rambling.

It's nice to meet every one!

I was born and raised in central Ohio. Lived there until I graduated in 1999. Then went off to play baseball and football in college. I am now finished with college awaiting my ship to come in.
I have been a OSU fan my entire life. I never really had an option to be anything else. For example, a friend of mine in hs was a scum fan and wore a hat in our house. My father told him to get out and not come back until he had a different hat on.
I posted on bucknuts for a little bit but that board has become nuts since the national championship. I suppose you all know that though. I came over here because I checked Clarity's profile to see where he had been and was directed here to find that the majority of thought provoking posters have moved here.
Well. look forward to chatting with all.

I was born and raised in Findlay OH. I am a Navy vet and served during the Vietnam War. I received my undergrad degree from BGSU and my graduate degree in social work from OSU. I now live in Virginia Beach and work in the field of criminal justice/substance abuse counseling.
I've been a Buckeye fan for 40 years. My favorite QB is Rex Kern. He had the greatest ball handling abilities I've seen in a QB. My favorite player was Jack Tatum. I remember when he knocked OJ Simpson out of the Rose Bowl game.
I continue to go to a game to see the Bucks at least once a year. I was at the Purdue game and saw the "Holy Buckeye" pass from Krenzel to Jenkins.
I hope to see you next year at one of the home games. I'm hoping to get to the NCST game next year because it is close to home.
Go Bucks.

Wasn't born in Ohio, but must have been born a Buckeye, for at age 6 weeks I convinced my parents to move from Huntington WVA to Columbus.

My earliest Buckeye memories are watching the great Buckeye basketball teams on a small, round screen black and white TV. Lucas and the gang...

My early years were spent in the Berwick area(Scottwood Road). I played little league football for the Berwick Jets, while Archie and his brothers played for the' "smaller" team, the Rockets...

I recall many a pickup game on the church lot on the corner of James Road and Scottwood. Archie, Raymond, Duncan, a guy named Frank Stavroff who punted for Indiana, they all played.

Later we moved to the Canal Winchester/Pickerington area. I went to Grovepot Madison due to school boundaries. I played Basketball, Football and track, graduating in 1975. Pat Curto, a Buckeye Defensive End was there then, as well as Ben Needham, a scUM linebacker...

First year of college was at Ohio University, in Biddle Hall. Great(read wild) times. I still have the flag from center field on the baseball field. <sigh> Was a walk-on for basketball and track(High Jump and 440) but never got to play because my health failed...our dorm team won the intramural football league...

Got sick, transferred to Columbus State and later to Ohio State...sat in the Block O my freshman year, what a blast...got out in 1982 (Philosophy/Photography) worked in the Philosophy Library in University Hall...

Married my SR year and gave up the dream of being a Professor...

work for various Columbus Corps, from Laz, to Bank One, to Victoria's Secret Catalogue...

moved west, to MO, then CA, then AZ...from there to Australia and now back, (forgive me) to Michigan...

used to sing a lot of karaoke with Big Pete Johnson...great guy, loves to be happy and party...boy does he have a low voice... :-)

miss Ohio,m would love to get my hands on some Buckeyes(the nut) :-)

be well

"Sound Off" Reminder

Lots of new folks on the site recently. I just wanted to remind everyone that there is a 'sound off' thread in the 'Reference Locker'.

A chance to let us know who you are and an opportunity to find out who is already over here.

Born in Manfield, OH, which for those of you who don't know is just about halfway between C-bus and Cleveland. I now reside in C-bus with my pregnant wife (3 months, first child--maybe the next Chris Spielman?!?). Attended tOSU, University of Cincinnati, and lived in Oxford, OH (Miami) for the parties and the bars. Of course, then I grew up and got married. 27 years old. Been a Buckeye fan since birth, and managed to convert my father into a huge fan, which is a funny story in and of itself. My old man was born and raised in Iowa, and was a huge Hayden Fry and Hawkeye fan. He went to the 'Shoe when Iowa was ranked #1 and tOSU pulled out the W (85 maybe?), but that experience converted him. He was still a Hawkeye fan, pulling double duty, until Cooper got fired, and now he's 100% Buckeye. #36 is my favorite all time Buckeye, simply because I grew up watching and idolizing him. I like to refer to myself as the greatest "what if" football player in Ohio history, simply because I attended a very small, private high school that did not have a football team, so I could never play. My frosh year in college, however, I weighed in at 230 pounds, stood 6'4" tall, and was legitimately (at least as far as I know) clocked at 4.45 in the 40. At least there is hope for my eventual son to be a Buckeye great...

well. i guess i'm one of the younger posters on here. i read these stories about guys watching games for decades and it makes me feel like a rookie fan! i've been a Buckeye fan since the 1997 Rose Bowl. at the time i was just 13 years old. i remember watching the game in the basement. every time asu took the lead, my dad would be like "oh, it's over," and i'd tell myself, "no it's not!" i found myself rooting real hard for the Bucks, even though at that time, i knew hardly anything about them (or college football for that matter). then in the last minute Germaine hit Boston in the endzone to give them the lead and the victory. i was pumped!!! i've been a big fan ever since.

i would have to say that i don't really have any one favorite player. i'm a big fan of Dustin Fox, since i got to watch him play in high school against my school. i also love to watch AJ. that kid is simply amazing.

i realize that my name (bucknut11) might not be the best name, considering some peoples' recent experiences over at bucknuts, but that's the name i had over there and i didn't really feel like coming up with a new one.

i am a sophomore at Malone College in canton, oh. i'm majoring in computer science. i also run for the track team.

GO BUCKS!!

I turned 24 in January and was born and raised in a town nobody's ever heard of in New Mexico called Artesia. It's right in between a couple of towns a lot of people have heard of, though - Carlsbad (home of Carlsbad Caverns National Park) and Roswell (home of E.T.).

I've shamefully only been a true Buckeye fan for about four years or so. I've worshipped football all my life, though, thanks to a long and storied Artesia High School Bulldog football tradition (23 state championships since 1953 and the most successful HS football program in N.M. history). This is one of those small towns that's on a par with Texas' Odessa Permian (of "Friday Night Lights" fame) and other similar places.

I graduated from AHS in 1998 and spent a little over a year attending college in Texas (Q: Why is it always windy in New Mexico? A: Because Texas sucks and Arizona blows. Ba-dum-ping.) before I took the suggestion of some friends' relatives and moved very briefly to Ohio. That's when I basically got into the Buckeyes, even though my mother was actually an OSU football fan when she was a kid back in the 60's, so I'd always been aware of the team.

Anyway, now I'm back in Nuevo Mexico, eating chiles, sucking down margaritas and wondering why the seasons never seem to change. I'm not planning on staying here forever, but I've got a gig right now as a sports editor at a regional newspaper that keeps me amused on Fall Friday nights, so who knows. And to be honest, who cares. Time for another margarita.

I was born and raised in NE Ohio, and have been following the Bucks since 1973, so I had to suffer through a lot of near misses (73, 75, 79, 95, 96, 98) before finally experiencing a national championship in 2002.

I never went to Ohio State, but have followed the program since my childhood because it is THE state school, and because the fans of the other "local" programs (Michigan and Notre Dame) were so obnoxious that I couldn't imagine being associated with them.

My favorite Buckeye is Chris Spielman, the definition of a football player.

I grew up in the Ohio Valley, along the Ohio River, amongst the coal mines and steel mills. The Buckeye tradition was instilled in me from birth as my father is a diehard Buckeye fan. Upon graduating from The Ohio State University in 1999, I moved to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina for what I thought was going to be a year of relaxation on the beach before Law School. I took advantage of SC's need for teachers and was hired as a high school English teacher. Years later, I am thankful I did not pursue Law as teaching and coaching has been a calling to me.

I was born and raised in St. Marys, Ohio (western part of the state) and have been a Buckeye from birth (1964). Only one school I applied to, OSU, and graduated in 1988 with a BS and again in 1991 with a MS. Got married in 1990 (to an OSU alum of course) moved to Phoenix, Az in 1991 and took first FT teaching position at Phoenix College. Lived there until 1994 when the birth of our first son brought us back to the Buckeye State. Now have 2 boys (7 and 9), live in NE Ohio, am a professor and my wife and I are thrilled to have lived in AZ for 3 years yet more thrilled to get back to Ohio! My sons are becoming huge OSU fans.

My in-laws live in Worthington hence we are in Cbus frequently. I always make it a point, regardless of the time of year, to drop by campus. I truly feel as if I am home whenever I step foot on campus! As the song goes, "How firm thy friendship, O-HI-O"!
