Actually, LSU may be dodging the media, but not the NCAA. They got caught for cheating on test scores by some of their players back in 2002. As a result, the university self-imposed some minor punishments and the NCAA went along with it. This year, they will have 23 instead of 25 scholies and 52 visitations instead of the allowed 55. Drinking is far more serious than cheating, even though I seem to cheat a lot more when I'm drunk.

Whitney Lewis

per CFN....

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, sources close to the program indicate that sophomore projected starting WR Whitney Lewis has apparently failed to meet academic requirements and is expected to miss the 2004 season. Lewis, who is coming off an impressive spring performance, reportedly fell short of a passing grade in one of his first-session summer school classes, and did not enroll in the summer’s second session.

Living here in SoCal, I talked to one of my USC buddies about this just today. He said, "no big deal, Mike Williams will be playing, so it doesn't really matter." My guess is Williams won't be playing, and the Trojans are going to open with Steve Smith, Fred Davis and Dwayne Jarrett at receiver. The next thing you know after that, all the recruits will be bragging about how USC plays freshman, unless of course they lose a couple of games this year and don't win their conference.

Just so folks know, Whitney Lewis has dyslexia, so let's not give him too much crap about his academic problems.

Word at wearesc.com is that BMW meets with the NCAA Monday morning.

USC Overrated?

No receivers to replace BMW, Keary Colbert. Leinart doesn't look the heisman quarterback that he was hyped to without BMW. Young offense. defense..can't stop VT..If USC is overrated what happens to the PAC 10 conference?? Go Hokies! Let's see whether they can muster anything in the second half..Anyway the 18 point line is a joke. They can still win the game..but no way are they going to dominate unless their receivers learn rapidly..Reggie Bush and Lendale white have their work cutout..if USC is to contend for a BCS bowl.

A little early, it's only one half. They certainly do look beatable and their receiving core has not impressed me yet. I guess we'll find out how much BMW meant.
