The best announcers are those who add to the excitement (Musburger) or knowledge of the game (Sunday Night Football crew) without distracting from it. Of course the best announcers are the ones who do both (Al McGuire). The worst are those who do neither and only spout off their opinions as if they are facts (Packer, Walton). In the middle ground are those who add exctiment or knowledge, but have become the show instead of the game (Madden, Dukie V.). These types unfortuantely become an annoying distraction.

Musburger has gotten better since they put him in the 1 slot. He used to, in my view, hype stuff too much.


One second a QB is the greatest ever to play the game, then he sails a pass and he has "a lot of work to do."

But, like I say, he's much better now. I actually enjoy his calls now, though the bar is set pretty low.

i cant stand idiots like dickieV and raftery who only have jobs because they sound like retards.

I'll agree with that. Listening to Raftery during the UNC vs. Wisky game was painful. I just really cannot stand him and his stupid voices.

Also there's one group from ABC college football, I think Brandt and Cunningham, perhaps? They did the NC State game in 2003 and it was terrible.

It's amazing how dumb most bball sportscasters are in comparison to football ones. I mean the usual suspects for hate in football are corso and madden, and they know their stuff. Whereas I would not feel too good about my kid learning basketball from Duke Vitale, the Ra-fart-y, or that guy who switched over from the NBA cuz he did something to his wife (Trev something).

I cant agree with you more. I think if you take some of the best basketball announcers out there today and match them up to the worst football and it is very close. Just seems like the Football ones have such a better grasp of the game. That is one thing that annoys Me about Madden, he will sit there and get all deep and technical on a play and then the next play he is talking about a fucking tuduckan

Madden is a little out of it at times.

Actually, I was talking about this with my brother in law this weekend. I'd like to hear the results of putting him, Summerall, Keith Jackson, and Bill Rafftery in the booth for one event, maybe a NASCAR race. See who would even attempt to commentate and who would just make asses of themselves by telling sotries or other assorted sound effects.

oh shit....my bad. i didnt realize i was in a pissing match cuz i havent been back in the open discussion forum.

umm....where were we....oh. id take thump in any kind of wager because with him its always 2 screen names vs. one. a tag team match between thump and tibor needs to be set up some time soon.
