Game Thread Spring Game, Sat 04/15/17 @ 12:30 ET (BTN)

My .02 after finally seeing it;

  • the talent is obvious, one could say ridiculous even
  • I'm not reading much into the stats or individual plays of the game
  • I had zero doubts that Kevin Wilson + OSU talent = big time offense before the scrimmage and I have zero doubt after
  • still worried about the OL in pass pro
  • K is shaky

Watched in in person where I could look away from the ball a lot of times and the first three statements are totally spot on.
I am not quite as worried about the pass pro because of how they were mixed up, the different guys in the backfield and the ridiculous talent that they were blocking. The LBs shot gaps very well, especially Justin Hilliard!

K I'm not as concerned with as I might be in August. I want to see the freshman come in and give Nuernberger a push.

I left on Saturday feeling like this is the deepest Ohio State football team that I've ever seen and I love it.

I can't help but compare Wilson's mini-pressers vs Becks. Do you think we will see quotes from Wilson next year about how he was mostly just trying to learn the system because everything was so different? God I hated that guy.
This x 1000... no, Wilson said fuck that I'm going full blast high tempo while knowing what I'm doing.

Some people have it and some people don't. Wilson already has it and Beck/Warriner never did

I generally agree. I will posit that no jamarco Jones and a mixing of the ol against OSU's DL is not really fair. That's a testament to the talent across the DL and the depth of the ol right now. Not what I'd classify as concerning just yet, sans injury.

I don't know that stats and individual plays can tell you a lot. But what it did show me is that it appears that the wrs and tes, due to overhauling the route combos, will be put in a position to make plays far more often. Saturday also told me that Johnny Dixon, if healthy, can be a contributor.

Saw it on BTN and must say I agree pretty much totally. I've had a few health issues since January, and have pretty much been out of the loop, but the game was a drink of cold water on the desert for me. All of a sudden, I'm ready to tail gate again. Can't wait!! :boom:

I'd rather see a full game of contact between the back-ups than watch the 1st-stringers play two hand touch for nearly a half. I understand the rationale but it was a poor product. If this is the future of the spring game, I'll most likely skip it altogether and just hold out until the regular season.

What did you expect? A circle drill for 3 hours straight? A full fledged scrimmage where a female ref calls a penalty that ends up being real? I get not seeing the 1 v 1, but I'm sure the staff is kewl with it. Or do you want to member...

I expected it to be the same format as it had been every single year under Urban until this one: full contact except the QB's

I would rather see that too. Urban Meyer would probably rather have Mr. Dixon and others survive the fan show though.

I have no doubt about Wilson. He made Indiana a threat to pull off the BIG upset every time they took the field. I'm not technically qualified to express an opinion on Beck. I do know he was supposed to bring talent in from Texas and it looks like he did. Actual coaching may have been beyond his grasp - someday someone is going to write a book about what happened to that 2015 team and eyes will be opened. And Warriner... the line play improved so much once he replaced Bollman and remained good until he had to be saddled with Beck's job. So I'm thinking either he was a victim of Beck's inability, or Bollman was so bad that Warriner looked fantastic.

If they are going to not play tackle they should just play flag. At least there would be some competition and some plays being made.
