OHIO STATE OPENS 137TH SEASON AT SNOWBIRD CLASSIC

    COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team opens its 2020 season this weekend at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Buckeyes take on Saint Joseph’s at 1 p.m. Friday before facing Pittsburgh at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Indiana State at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The Friday and Sunday contests will be played at North Charlotte Regional Park with the Saturday matchup against the Panthers at CoolToday Park the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves.

    LEADING OFF
    • Big Ten Tournament champions and NCAA Nashville Regional participants a season ago, the Buckeyes return 20 letterwinners, including six starting position players and all three weekend starters, to go along with 15 newcomers.
    • Ohio State is led by 10th-year head coach Greg Beals. He is 297-230-1 overall at Ohio State and holds a 540-432-1 career coaching record. Beals has guided the team to NCAA Regional appearances in three of the last four years.
    • The Scarlet and Gray will open the 2020season with 14-straight road games. The Buckeyes will play in the state of Florida twice and will also visit Georgia and Tennessee.
    • The Buckeyes are 17-5-1 during the opening weekend in the last six years.
    • The Buckeyes are 27-10 all-time at the Snowbird Classic and have played in Port Charlotte, Fla., for the last 10 years. Ohio State has gone undefeated at the Snowbird three times (2015, 2017 and 2019).
    • The Scarlet and Gray have won their season opener six-consecutive seasons.
    • Ohio State returns all three weekend starters from last season in Garrett Burhenn, Seth Lonsway and Griffan Smith. The trio combined for 280 innings pitched in 2019.
