St. John Arena (Official Thread)

I like The Schott, but to me it has always felt like a poor man's NBA arena. I've had season tickets for six years, and I think moving the students to courtside helped out, but it will always feel impersonal to me.

I had forgotten how awesome St. John Arena was until we played there in the NIT back with our good friend Kosta Koufos (I think we played Cal).

However, the small "fieldhouse"-style arenas are long gone now. I understand why, but I still miss them. If you ever get a chance, Williams Arena (Minnesota), Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler) and Assembly Hall (Indiana) are all awesome places to see a game.

That being said, I do not miss the St. John Arena chairs.

Going to make Skull Session a lot more crowded, but should be great for the other sports to be able to sell a brand new state of the art facility to recruits

The question is where/if they will have the skull session at all.

The new building is not being put in St John's place, they are going to stuff it over at the corner of Fred Taylor and Ackerman road.

I suppose they could hold the Skull Session at the Schott..that is a bit more of a hike..it would be cool in that case to have the band come right down Lane Avenue at the end of it..a logistical pain in the butt maybe.

In terms of the non revenue sports that will play there its a shame they are going to make these events even harder for the students to get to, particularly the freshmen..considering the low turnouts already.

You are right and I am wrong.

There was no mention of the new location in the original article.

Only heard that on the radio this afternoon.

Just trying to gauge the distance from the Schott on Google Maps. Looks like it goes from roughly a 10th of a mile today to almost a half mile. Not all that far for a MARCHING band. Much more of a problem for the geezers in attendance.

Bring them straight down Lane Ave and make sure you leave a path through where St John is now. Would be a hell of a spectacle. And folks could actually get into the Schott. The downside is that the acoustics suck.
