Stan Drayton (Head Coach, Temple Owls)

NEW TITLE: Ohio State RBs coach Stan Drayton now has an added job title: assistant head coach for offense.

Drayton's name came up with at least one other head coaching job during the offseason, and the new label was added.

"He had a chance to leave us," coach Urban Meyer said. "I never was big into titles, but it seems to be a big thing. He's earned it. He talks to the team a lot. I think that helps him down the road to become a head coach."

NOT SO QUOTABLE: Meyer was asked earlier this week if he was a different person from his first season at Ohio State.

Here's what the official transcript says:

"I don't think, pretty much the same guy we've done all right. I don't know. I don't know I just can't wait to play football. All due respect, answer questions about football."

The running backs coach clearly would like a shot to move up the coaching ranks, and he had some interviews after last season. This season, he was reportedly the runner-up for the Florida Atlantic job that went to Arkansas assistant Charlie Partridge.

Drayton has moved around in his coaching career, but he has coached with Meyer both in Florida and at Ohio State. The Cleveland native was glad to get back closer to home when he was hired by Jim Tressel to replace Darrel Hazell, but after three seasons with the Buckeyes, he's clearly thinking about getting his own program to run.

Evidently, you accumulate points by number of players and their 247 ranking. I think at tOSU, there are more very good recruiters, so the count is spread out, and of course, there are fewer scholarships to be handed out.

Yeah, that's what I gathered too. But that said, nice to see three of ours so high up the list together. Lordy, this is a good class.

Stan Drayton is a coach I admittedly forget about a lot while we question assistants, but I think he has done a pretty good job overall and is just a great representative of our team in all of his interviews. Very honest but also positive looking forward. Very thankful to have Drayton on our staff.
