WTH? Am I seeing things or is it really at $14,000? I see this card is 1/1 but what if he throws his arm out next year, this card will be worthless.

Card value, as I'm sure you know, often has nothing to do with the player's talent... rarity and condition. Boom.

I don't understand your point...because I've never heard of this person in my life.

Taylor was only the second No. 1 overall pick to never make it to the majors. That particular card was mass produced so it wasn't anywhere near $16,000 in value - but the guy was so hyped that I believe his card was trading at the highest value of any released that year... until he blew up his throwing shoulder in a fist fight.

My point is that no matter how rare the card, the value of these things is based in part on the player's performance. Strasburg will be in the majors in a couple weeks, but if he still ends up as big a bust as Taylor was somebody's going to be out a ton of money on that card.

blew out his arm in a fist fight huh? reminds me of a kid from my home town. he was raw as hell and didn't have the greatest upbringing....but damn could he throw hard. ended up breaking his hand trying to punch his brother but missed and put his hand through a wall.

Looks like the market has overvalued Reds-Nats tickets too:

1 ticket to June 4 Stephen Strasburg debut vs. Reds

SElling 1 terrible seat up high in section 403, Upper Outfield Gallery, guaranteed to give you a nosebleed but you'll be able to tell your grandkids you saw Steven Strasborg pitch his major league debut at Nationals Park!!!!! $1 Million or best offer. Serious inquiries only.

BTW, I'll probably be at that game.
