Stephen Strasburg (2019 World Series MVP)

Dryden;1751092; said:
Buster Olney quoting an NL scout, "Throwing that hard is probably a curse."

In related new, Reds' Aroldis Chapman is now reported to be hitting 104 on the radar gun.

My completely unscientific, non-provable opinion: I think these guys are getting used up too much from about the time they turn seven or eight. Dads with Major League dreams are out there on the bucket catching their kids 400 innings a summer for 10 years before they're even out of high school.

that makes as much sense as any other possible explanation. a little league baseball season used to be 20 games or so. i was talking to a fifth grader the other day who said he played little league then played traveling ball that had a 60 game schedule. that is 80 games! the kid is only eleven.

Nationals Journal - Stephen Strasburg 'probably' needs Tommy John surgery, will miss 12 to 18 months

Rookie phenom Stephen Strasburg will "probably" miss at least one year and perhaps the entire 2011 baseball season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to replace the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, General Manager Mike Rizzo said. After one of the most electrifying beginnings to a baseball career in memory and after validating the massive hype that trumpeted his arrival, Strasburg ends his season with an uncertain future. The Washington Nationals will hold their breath.
Strasburg will receive a second opinion from Dr. Lewis Yocum, the surgeon who performed Tommy John surgery on Jordan Zimmermann.
The Nationals discovered the damaged ligament Thursday morning when team doctor Wiemi Douoguih administered an arthrogram, an enhanced MRI exam in which dye is shot into the specified area. The Nationals had been unclear about Strasburg's injury prior to the test and were considering Strasburg's injury a strained flexor tendon in his forearm.

Reminds me of that time when I was a kid back in '88 and took 50 Allan Anderson rookie baseball cards over to his house and asked him to sign them. My mistake. I think he screwed up his elbow signing all that crap because he was never the same after that.

Strasburg at his press conference, "It was kind of a shock to me, because I didn't really feel anything."

Oh really, that's why you pulled your hand back like you touched a hot stove and shook your wrist to see if it was still attached the moment that pitch left your hand?

(Haraz N. Ghanbari - AP)

After Stephen Strasburg allowed four runs in four laborious innings against the Padres this afternoon, Nationals Manager Davey Johnson volunteered an unusual postgame revelation. Johnson said Strasburg had applied the analgesic ointment Hot Stuff to loosen up his body, and somehow it had covered an area that would affect the pitcher?s performance.

?I can?t really tell you what the problem was, but some Hot Stuff got misplaced,? Johnson said. ?It was on his shoulder and evidently ? I don?t know how it got to where it got, but it was uncomfortable, to say the least.?
