Straight 6 with Chris Givens

_____

Across the state of Ohio, the class of 2007 is full of talent at the skill positions. One of the best prospects resides in Chillicothe, but somehow, he has been lost in the shuffle thus far. Watching Chris Givens on film, we were immediately impressed by a versatile football player who could play on either side of the ball. He shows the excellent speed, burst, hands, and ball skills that make a great football player. Right now, he does hold scholarship offers from Miami of Ohio and Cincinnati, but expect that list to grow after Chris showcases his skills on the summer camp circuit. The BP Recruiting Team recently had an opportunity to give Chris the Straight Six.

1) When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?

CG: When I think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind is tradition, discipline, and big games every Saturday afternoon.

2) What position would you prefer to play in college and why?

CG: The position I would prefer to play in college would have to be wide receiver because I just feel really comfortable being lined up against a defensive back and being able to beat him one-on-one going deeper into the secondary and making a big catch for my team. Also, wide receiver is where I think I would excel the most at on the field and I feel I would be most successful.

3) This is your senior year...what goals have you set personally and for your team?

CG: This senior year coming up, my goals for my team is first to see every last one of the senior guys go to college on a football scholarship. Besides me going to the next level and playing for a college football program, I would love it even more to see my friends that I have grown up since elementary school be able to get a chance to play college football at the next level and be able to enjoy the experience to the fullest. My personal goals this senior year coming is to just enjoy my senior season, have fun playing my last year of high school football, and just to walk away from every game knowing I gave 110% on the field every friday night and left it all on the field with no regrets.

4) When your career is over, how would you like people to remember Chris Givens?

CG: Whenever my football career comes to an end, it would be really nice for people to say I was one of many great football players that have ever played. Besides that, I would like to be known for having fun and enjoying the game because many people don't get to play this sport throughout their lives. I want to say that I played college football or professional football and enjoyed it every step of the way. Also, I would like to be remembered as just a friend to everyone, that I was a reliable person, and was there for anything for anyone that needed help.

5) If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?

CG: If I was analyzing myself on my film, I believe my strengths would be reading coverages from the line of scrimmage and being able to help out my quarterback to audible to a better play that would help out in whatever situation we were ever in. The thing I believe i would need to work on is how to run my routes even sharper. Just being able to get in and out of my routes and still stay at the same speed without slowing down or speeding up.

6) What's are some of your favorite things to do away from football?

CG: Some of my favorite things to do outside of football are just hanging with friends, and family. That's probably what I do 90% of the time if im not doing anything too important. Another thing I like to do is go to the YMCA or the park and shoot basketball with some of the players on our basketball team. That really relaxes me and lets me be comfortable to get away from it all. The last thing is fishing. Just last summer I started to fish. I didn't like it to much until I got the hang of it and started to catch some pretty huge fish. Fishing teaches me patience, discipline, and perseverance. Then about almost everyday or every other day, I went fishing with a good friend of mine and it just turned into a hobby I really enjoyed.

Very good interview, he's an impressive young man. I don't recall ever seeing a quote like this from a high school player asked about his goals:
