In early January, rumors began circulating that St. Edward High School junior Nate Oliver had received an early offer from the Buckeyes. While the offer was not immediately accepted, Nate did not leave much suspense for his fans. He called the offer his "dream offer" and regularly proclaimed his love for the Buckeyes. Three weeks later, Nate publicly confirmed - which was by then a mere formality - that he would be playing his college football in Columbus, Ohio. As the Buckeyes' first commitment of the class of 2007, Nate has taken it upon himself to assist in recruiting the nation's best players to join him in Columbus. This leadership role is where Nate Oliver excels...and Coach Jim Tressel had to know that when he offered the hard-hitting safety so early in the process. The BP Recruiting Team recently had the pleasure of interviewing Nate Oliver in our regular feature, "The Straight Six."

1) When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?

NO: When I think of Ohio State football, a word that comes to mind is Tradition. Ohio State has had great teams in the past and they continue to produce some of college football's elite players. Some names that come to my mind when I think of Ohio State football are Eddie George, Jack Tatum, A.J. Hawk, Nate Clements, and Chris Spielman.

2) What position would you prefer to play in college and why?

NO: At St. Edward High School, I play both safety and running back.
I would prefer to play strong safety for The Ohio State Buckeyes because I would much rather be the one hitting someone rather than receiving the hit.

3) This is your senior year...what goals have you set personally and for your team?

NO: Personally, I just want to better my statistics from my junior year and become better in pass coverage. Two goals that I have set for the team is to stay undefeated and win the Division 1 State Championship.

NO: I would like people to remember Nate Oliver as a great football player but an even better person. I don't want to be one of those guys who were great football players, but people didn't like them as a person.

5) If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?

NO: My strengths would have to be jamming ability, tackling/hitting ability, instincts, and leadership. My weaknesses would be pass coverage and overall quickness.

6) What are some of your favorite things to do away from football?

NO: I love to just hang out with my friends and spend time with my family. I also love playing basketball and baseball with my brother.

You have gotta like that about the kid. If he keeps that position, he'll be successful in whatever he attempts in life.
