Stump collateral chatter

MaxBuck

SoCal, Baby!
YSU fan here, some rumblings around Campus hes transfering from Ohio State to YSU, mostly because he could still play up to 3 years and he likes the engineering program, which is one of the best in the country.

Have you guys heard anything ?
Well, I've heard nothing about YSU having one of the best engineering programs in the country.

About Stump? Nada.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately for you using Google does not ensure reading comprehension. tOSU's program is ranked #28 among programs that offer degrees through Ph.D and YSU's is 69th among those who don't.

Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs Rankings (Doctorate)
The undergraduate engineering program rankings were based solely on peer assessment surveys. To appear on an undergraduate engineering survey, a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET. The programs below are schools whose highest engineering degree offered is a doctorate.

Ohio State University--Columbus
Columbus, OH

#28 in Engineering Programs (doctorate) (tie)
Located in the state capital of Columbus, The Ohio State University is a sprawling school with seemingly endless opportunities for students to get involved. There are more than 1,000 clubs and organizations on campus, including about 65 fraternities and sororities. Sports are another big part of campus life, with the Ohio State Buckeyes competing in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference. The athletic teams are named after the state tree and cheered on by mascot Brutus Buckeye. The football stadium, which was completed in 1922, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. All Ohio State freshmen must live in one of the more than 35 residence halls across campus, unless a student is from Central Ohio and can commute from home. The Ohio State First Year Experience offers freshmen orientation, mentors and special programming to ease the transition into college. Freshmen can also go on the school’s community service spring break, a trip to Chicago that is only open to first-year students. Local community service opportunities are easy to find through the school’s Pay It Forward program, which includes an online listing of volunteer events. Students can also study abroad in more than 40 countries through Ohio State.more

Does it really matter? YSU has a decent to good engineering program, and if that's part of the reason why Alex Stump is considering transferring to the school, good for him and good for YSU.

I'm happy for Alex if he prefers the YSU's program for whatever reason he might. However, I have a problem with a first time poster trying to claim that a regional school's program is superior to that of my alma mater without providing some information to back up the claim.

I don't think you know how to navigate that site. Or understand it. YSU is ranked #69 in engineering programs at schools that don't offer doctorates in engineering. OSU is not on that list at all, as OSU offers doctorates in engineering. OSU is #28 on the list of engineering programs that do offer doctorates.

EDIT: DiamondBuck beat me to it!

Having a doctoral program means that the faculty are publishing research at the cutting-edge of a field and competent to develop new professorial talent and practice leaders who work at the cutting-edge. I don't mean to be dismissive of YSU, which I am sure improves the lives of its students. However, as a professor, I think that it is important to realize that there is one hell of a difference between the quality of the programs, so much so that US News and World Report do not compare them on the same scale.

If I were this young man and I wanted to make sure that I was doing the best for my lifetime earnings, I wouldn't be thinking of transferring to YSU.
