Stupid two point conversions (SimpLLLLLe Jim loves 'em, and so does James Franklin)

Going for two is a no-brainer in that situation to me.

Hence my purpose in creating this thread. :biggrin:

You know you need three touch downs to pull off the miracle tie. In two of those three TDs you have to get a 2 point conversion. It's not any easier to go XP/2P/2P than it is to go 2P/2P/XP and if you're going to miss a 2P you'd rather do it ASAP so you know you'll need an extra score.

The idea is to keep the game within reach for as long as possible. By going for two when down 17, and failing, you immediately create a need for an extra possession that doesn't exist if you kick the extra point. You were down three scores before your TD, and now you're still down 3 scores because you were too quick to go for two.

Making it a two score game also adds a little pressure to your opponent. Pressure does funny things to people. As soon as that two pointer fails I'm still up 17, and I breathe a sigh of relief because I know you still need 3 scores to beat me. Thanks, coach. :)

In my simplified example where once the opponent gets the ball all they have to do is take a knee I don't see how any of your points support kicking the XP first due to reasons I already mentioned.

For the Cincy example that you're actually talking about, as I mentioned, I do agree it's a little bit of a closer call since the other team has more opportunities to screw up. Still, if you mapped out a detailed decision tree of the possibilities for the last 6:00 of that game I think you'd find that it clearly favors going for the 2 point when down 17. Meaning if you could perfectly predict the outcome probabilities of each decision, it'd conclude something like if you went for 2P first you'd win 8% of the time but if you went for 1P first you'd win 6.5% of the time. The reasons for this would be similar to what I described above.

Didn't expect Umass to make the list today but they did it. Score a TD to get within 12 of scUM with 5 minutes left, and they go for two. The ensuing failure forces them to get 2 more TDs. An XP would've cut it to 11 and kept the FG in play.

Don't go for two until you HAVE to go for two. The odds are against you. :shake:

Temple scores with 9 minutes left to go up 20-16 and goes for 2. Now a field goal only puts them up 7. Way too much time on the clock for that.

Illinois scored a TD to go up 16-12 on Northern Illinois in the 2nd quarter, and went for two. They made it, but it was still a stupid idea with over half the game left to play.

Why does he have to be such a fucking dick about everything. It's like he knows he's annoying and wants to play it up..

There must have been one somewhere in that game of the century today...of course I'm talking about San Jose State 16, Southern Utah 11.

Just wanted to say, that shit must have been EPIC.

Maybe maybe not.

16 = 1 TD 3 FG's or 2 TD's and 1 Safety
11 = 3 FG's 1 Safety or 1 TD 2 Safety's

Yeah, OK, you're right of course...I really just wanted a thread to post about that epic sports encounter. Of course, we know San Jose State had to get at least one TD, since they can't just win with FGs :slappy:

What a stupid, arrogant fuck. Please, God, let that come back to bite him in the ass...

vBit me today - Kiffin had 3 failed 2-pters, and won 32-21, failing to cover the 12.5 because of a garbage TD and the 3 missed XPs he could have kicked.

Trailing in the 2nd quarter 14-6, Indiana scores a TD and - you guessed it - goes for two.

FAIL

14-12

Here's what "the card" should say for the first half of any game:

Just kick it, you idiot
