I was thinking about this the other day for whatever reason. I think about 50 million would do it for me. I love what I do but could give it up for about that much... I'd be more interested in setting up my family for generations than not working right now.

To quit my current job, it would take about $50K, tax free.

I'm not sure if I could be payed to retire now as I have too many goals yet to accomplish. Therefore, I guess it would have to be around $30 million, $5 million for me and my family and another $25 million for me to establish a liberal arts college--I figure that would keep me occupied and prevent me from becoming bored for the next 50 years.

That's kind of surprising. I figured you would want to open up a conservative arts college.

Conservative Arts? Is that like painting with a paintbrush, instead of your own feces?

Oh yeah, back to the number in question. About 100k to walk out of my current job. And about 6 million to just say 'fuck it'.

$5 million would be fine by me. Enough to not work completely. I figure even with a modest 5% return I'm still looking at $250,000 a year. No matter what I would still have to do something work related to keep the brain stimulated.

My assistant and I were talking about what we would do if we won the $300 million lottery from a few weeks ago. We threw in a couple of bucks each and bought some tickets (We did not win, just in case you were wondering.). She said she would quit and do nothing but spend the money on her family and friends. I said I would take most of it and start a foundation. I seriously would not know what to do even if I walked away with "only" $50 million.
