Taivon Jacobs (Maryland WR)

It's a lot easier to go to your dream school and be solid when you're the guy in a position of need. When you take a look around and that isn't the case, or may not be the case... well, I'm sure it gets a lot harder to make that decision. Especially when there are others involved.

I wish him the best with whatever he decides to do. Pray that it's the best for him and his family.

This. Whatever happens, glad the talent is staying in the BIG and best of luck to the young man.

It's pretty easy to read between the lines. I feel for Taivon as Buckeyenation piles on him. The kid has clearly been recruited over and being shown the door in a polite as way possible. It happens in big boy recruiting.

Ohio State isn't going to embarrass him and say they have retracted his scholarship and Taivon isn't going to embarrass himself and tell the world he no longer has an offer. It essentially came down to Chip Kelly handing us Dontre Wilson and a late bloomer in James Clark. You watch Wilson and Clark film and it isn't even close who the better players are. If OSU had 85 scholarships Taivon is probably still a part of the class. And the other point no one is bringing up, is the fact that Taivon can play DB, but OSU also got a late switch in Gareon Conley. His versatility isn't a huge asset when the Buckeyes have recruited elite talent pretty much across the board outside of offensive line, IMO.

Great post. Agree.

but he wouldn't have to make that decision if we didn't have Wilson and Clark. The excuse only came up after room got tight...

That we know of. He was flirting with a visit previously, granted he didn't take it. But we have no idea how long the kid has been struggling with the decision.

If the coaches were applying pressure because of new players, wouldn't it be an easy decision for Taivon to say 'screw these guys' and stay home? That he is torn and isn't turned off leads me to believe that its his decision that he is struggling with.

At the time he backed off an official to Maryland we were still seriously looking at Ryan Timmons and James Clark was a longshot at best. Dontre Wilson was a small possibility but a lot of work was needed.

Fast forward 3 weeks, and we have Wilson locked up, Clark essentially a given, and Jalin Marshall who is an absolute stud. There just isn't enough room with 85 scholarships. Anyone who doesn't think this is guided is being very naive to how big time recruiting goes...even JT did stuff like this. It happens.

I have no doubt that it happens; nor am I completely dismissing it in this case. But a child, 18 year old decision making (much like I said in the EzE thread), and the facts you just brought up about current and likely commits can all be hesitations initiated on his end too.

Considering the child involved, everything may have really worked out for the best. That has to be a tough spot for an 18 year old to be in. I wish him all the best, hope ends up a first round draft pick.

These players are division I athletes, they camp all over the country and compete to be the best. Competition is never going to be deciding factor for a recruit that tOSU wants. However, if he reconsidering his situation he has to look at all of the pros and cons. Any responsible adult would do the same. Good riddance to the false esoteric group that thinks that fans have the right to condemn a kid's pondering.

That's why I was careful to say I don't want to single Jacobs out, as there might be other factors at play. Just saying in the event a kid decommits because other commitments at the same position in his recruiting class, I doubt they have the type of competitive spirit UFM demands.

It is his choice, regardless. While I enjoy this site, I think that there some judgmental people on the site. If Urban has flipped several commitments recently, Jacobs and others are within their rights to re-evaluate their situation. The young man is being is being prudent and analyzing his options.

I don't see how I, or others with similar opinions, are being "judgmental". It's not like his baby feel from the sky and thus just now became a factor in his decision. You say he is "being prudent and analyzing his options"...he wasn't when he committed six months ago? He even said that he committed to OSU because he felt like it was a place where he could make a positive change in his life...not sure what about tOSU has changed since July 19th.

You use UFM's flipping of recruits as an example...we were able to flip Wilson in large part because Oregon lost Kelly as head coach. Last time I checked, UFM is still at tOSU, so you really can't compare his flipping of recruits to Jacob's possible switch tomorrow.
