Bucs Fire Jon Gruden, Bruce Allen

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced that they have dismissed head coach Jon Gruden and General Manager Bruce Allen, according a two-paragraph release on the Bucs' web site.

"We will be forever grateful to Jon for bringing us the Super Bowl title, and we thank Bruce for his contributions to our franchise," said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Joel Glazer in the announcement. "However after careful consideration, we feel that this decision is in the best interest of our organization moving forward."

are you guys kidding? Gruden is BUM. He won a Super Bowl with Dungy's players... the guy is a total ego maniac that treats his players like shit. He still claims to be an "offensive genius" but his teams constantly underachieve.... he should have been fire a few years ago except Monte Kiffen's defense save his job.... Kiffen leaves and Gruden is fired.... it's not a coincidence.

Why didn't Dungy win a Super Bowl with them?

Dungy would have won it too in 2002 just like Gruden if he wasn't fired. The offense took a huge step back from 2001 to 2002 and they still Won a Superbowl because of Kiffen and the defense.

Gruden is not a good coach.

More Defense and not enough Offense.
'99 they ran into a buzz-saw called the St. Louis Rams.
After that it was 3 seasons, often with perennial backup QB Shaun King taking over from injured or ineffective starters.
But the bottom line answer is lack of Offense, which was largely a conservative offensive plan.

Gruden beat his own players in Oakland, using Dungy's players to do it. The "tuck rule" kept Gruden from taking the Raiders to the Super Bowl 2 years earlier. Neither of those items support the "bum" contention.

He may well be an egomaniac, though.

Sure he would have won it. How could they have taken a huge step back yet scored more points in 2002 ?
where are you getting your info? The offense scored more and the defense gave up less in Grudens first year than in Dungys last.

You might not like Gruden but he's far from a bum.
