They don't need an OT, they need a quarterback. Having good o-line in the NFL don't matter if you don't have a quarterback. I would guess the Dolphins would take Matt Ryan instead of Jake Long if they could do it over. That's not a knock on Long or Lewan, it's just the reality of the NFL.

That's a bit off. If you can't protect the QB, then you can't see what he can do. Also, if you can't establish a run game, then it hurts the passing game. No line, no running game. Kolb can be effective with a good line and good coaching bringing out his strong points. Someone like Mike McCoy has proven he can work with QB's like Jake Delhomme and Tebow, and have contenders. Would I rather Andrew Luck, hell yes... but you have to work with what you have and the draft is 1st round QB thin. Which ties this conversation (in the Taylor Lewan thread) back to Taylor. Cardinals need someone that is more NFL ready than Taylor, would love Luke Joeckel if the opportunity presented itself.

Well said. This discussion begins and ends with Lewan not being a typical top-10 talent...which is why he should've come out this year.

Put Matt Ryan in Cleveland and he is the next Tim Couch. Sorry, disagree that a line is less important than a QB - at ANY level of football. Games are won & lost in the trenches.

Ask David Carr if having a good O-line matters.

Never said a good o-line doesn't matter. I said it doesn't matter that your o-line is good IF you don't have a quarterback. The point was simply finding a franchise quarterback virtually guarantees long term success and a franchise left tackle doesn't. Some of the best left tackles play on bad teams. The top quarterbacks play on good teams, none play on bad teams.
David Carr's major downfall was he was an average quarterback.

Clowney > everyone else, and I don't think he was "absolutely abused" in Columbus, sorry.

I am sure most will see Lewan as overrated .. of course he is, he plays for Michigan.

he had 1 bad game all season.. also he handled clowney in the first half.. the killing of vincent smith (5'6 165lbs) wasnt he responsiblity... also clowney said hands down the best tackle he faced all year...
he is not overrated at all he is a stud left tackle and this post is just a buckeye fan boy post...

Have the Ratbirds EVER had anything more than a slightly below-average QB?

Lewan looked fairly solid for the most part against Clowney, due in part to the latter having a tendency to take plays off and also due to Lewan's talent.

I've said it before, but if you're a first-round pick, it makes no sense to come back to school and labor yourself for free. The chances of senior glory are slim. One of the few players who tasted it in a similar situation was Mike Doss, but even his draft stock took a bit of a tumble after his senior year. Most of the time, it ends like the senior years of Laurinaitis, Leinart, Hart, Henne, and Long.

Strike while the iron is hot. His decision, but it could be a costly one. At the very least, he lost a year's worth of NFL salary.

Simon didn't play. It was the freshman Diesel Washington that ate his lunch.

Yeah, but they refused to start him because they are idiots! (And possibly racists, too!)

Yeah, but if you were a Buckeye, you'd be hanging out on a Michigan site instead of here. :p
