Barron Collier's Jeff Heuerman (82) catches the football for a touchdown making the score 30-0 at the end of the first half of the football game between Barron Collier High School and Cypress Lake High School on Friday, October 9, 2009 in Fort Myers.

NAPLES ? Entertaining dozens of scholarship offers, Barron Collier tight end Jeff Heuerman hoped to make his college choice this summer. Dealing with some of the nation's elite coaches, Heuerman expected even more offers in the coming weeks.

After a recruiting trip to Ohio State on Saturday, however, the Cougars junior doesn't need to wait anymore. Heuerman is going to be a Buckeye.

Two days after his visit, Heuerman made a verbal commitment to Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel during a phone call Monday afternoon. Heuerman plans to graduate from Barron Collier in December and enroll in Ohio State in January 2011.

Heuerman had offers from more than a dozen Bowl Championship Series schools and narrowed his choices to Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder expected more offers to come, but after his trip to Columbus, he was sold on the Buckeyes.

?I just knew,? Heuerman said. ?When I got off (Ohio State's) campus, I just knew I wanted to be a Buckeye. There's really no sense waiting. When you know something you know it, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.?

Heuerman said he loved everything about the Buckeyes, from the coaches to the players to the facilities to the campus. Though he had his pick of elite college football programs, he could only imagine himself at Ohio State.

?I didn't plan on committing this early,? Heuerman said. ?I just went up there and it was a perfect fit. I felt the most comfortable of all the schools I visited. I felt Ohio State is the best fit.?
