TE Luke Farrell (3rd Team All B1G, Jacksonville Jaguars)

Farrell was injured tonight in a loss for the conference championship. Not sure on the severity, but was carted off the field at end of the game. Honest opinion, not that impressed with him. Below average on defense and not much of an impact on offense. Has a ton of work to do before he plays a down for Ohio State. Physical attributes and tools all there though.

TE is one of the hardest positions to scout from HS to CFB...a lot of times you're doing position switches so thankfully we don't have to do that when watching Luke. Defensively I totally agree with you but I wouldn't watch a whole bunch of him on that end.

As a TE I think he projects very well; kid is blessed with size but better than that he knows how to use it. Stands tall and plays big which is great to see. Has pretty good hands but the thing that sticks out the most to me is his feet - quick feet, he doesn't utilize that enough yet but it's something he'll learn but it should help to develop him as a strong blocker. As far as TE's go pretty average speed and strength, a little stiff but he looks like a kid still getting adjusted to his body. Definitely someone you bring in and develop, let Mick get his hands on and two years down the road you're going to have a kid you don't recognize anymore. I think he projects as a TE that is a more ideal fit for our system - he's not going to be a stretch TE, he's going to be a blocker and an 'eight and sit' type, a safety outlet that you can rely on more along the lines of the guys we had at the end of the Tressel era. Tressel probably would have been going gaga over this kid. Won't be the sexiest of commits but a kid I'd feel confident will see the field.

It's great that we're bringing in Hausman in the same class, which allows Farrell to take the time he needs to adjust to the college game. It'll also be interesting to see where the coaches play guys like AJ Alexander and Rashid Berry, because they can easily grow into TEs and help with depth as Luke adjusts

Dude lives about 3 miles down the road from me. This kid is the "student-athlete" that coaches pray land in their laps. Guarantee he's an Academic All-American if not one on the field. Have no idea what the future hold for this incredibly talented and focused young man, but I'll give him the greatest compliment that I could ever give to an 18 year old kid. That being, that I am the father of a now 15 year old daughter, and my best wish for her is that some day a person like Luke asks me for her hand in marriage.

Best of luck, Luke, in your future endeavors at THE Ohio State University. THE Lake County Community is behind you 110% of the way!

Peace, and as always:

GO BUCKEYES

Funny you should say that Woody. I grew up in Perry and graduated from Perry High School a few years back. I have a daughter who's been accepted to The Ohio State University, and while I haven't fully convinced her to follow dad's footsteps to Columbus next Fall, I did mention Luke to her last night. My words were something like, if you decide to go to Ohio State and you were to meet this guy, I would probably allow you to date him.

11W - THE HURRY UP: LUKE FARRELL READYING HIMSELF FOR OHIO STATE, TEXAS STRUGGLES HELPING BUCKEYES, MALIK VANN CHECKS OUT BUCKEYES

LUKE FARRELL READY FOR THE NEXT STEP

One of the reasons Ohio State can consider not signing a tight end in 2017's recruiting class is because, in 2016, they signed two pretty darn good ones from inside of their own state: Cincinnati's Jake Hausmann and Perry's Luke Farrell. The pair are working hard to make sure they've got a chance to participate in a surprisingly empty tight end room at the Woody Hayes. Rashod Berry has been moved to defensive end, redshirt freshman AJ Alexander hasn't caught a pass in college and Marcus Baugh has the only game experience in Ed Warinner's group. Long story short? The chance to make an impact is there for the incoming freshmen to take.

"It is definitely exciting for us now that Rashod is back on defense," Farrell told 11W following a visit to campus on Saturday. "t's pretty much me, Jake and AJ Alexander behind Marcus."

Contd....

BETTER KNOW A BUCKEYE: LUKE FARRELL

Our "Better Know a Buckeye" series continues with its 15th installment. We profile Luke Farrell, a tight end prospect from Perry, Ohio.

LUKE FARRELL
  • Size: 6-6/240
  • Position: TE
  • (Hometown) School: Perry, OH (Perry)
  • 247 Composite: ★★★★
  • National Ranking: 192
  • Position Ranking: 7 (TE)
  • State Ranking: 8 (OH)
Farrell arrived on the recruiting scene in the summer of 2014 when two strong camp showings at Michigan and Ohio State earned him back-to-back offers from the Big Ten powers. His recruitment centered on Ohio State, though Boston College, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Penn State all made pushes through 2015 for his services. A quiet verbal since June 2015, he committed to Ohio State publicly at the Friday Night Lights event on July 24, 2015.

I profile Luke Farrell here, retelling his recruitment and the reasons for his commitment. Thereafter, I provide a scouting report for Farrell, who looks the part of the prototypical tight end. I close with a projection of a redshirt in 2016 and highlight film for the reviewer to watch at the end.

HIS RECRUITMENT
Luke Farrell's recruitment starts in earnest in the summer of 2014. He already had an offer from Illinois before his sophomore year ended, but that summer camp circuit gave him a higher profile for big programs in the region.
