FARRELL HAS FINAL FOUR

Yet another Ohioan on campus this weekend was Perry High School tight end Luke Farrell. The nation's eighth-ranked tight end, Farrell made it quite clear heading into the visit that he would not be committing to Ohio State on this trip. He's got visits planned for Penn State and Boston College over spring break and those two schools, along with Michigan State and Ohio State, are the four schools he's focusing on, according to Rivals.com analyst Ryan Donnelly.

4-Star Ohio Tight End Luke Farrell Has OSU in Top 4

The Buckeyes already have two of the nation's best tight ends committed in the 2016 class in Jake Hausmann and Kierre Hawkins, but Perry, Ohio tight end Luke Farrell (6-6 244) apparently still has a spot in OSU's recruiting class if he wants it.

And that should tell you just how much the Ohio State coaches think of him.

Farrell is rated a 4-star prospect by all four recruiting services, and the No. 5 tight end in the nation per the 247Sports Composite.

He was on the OSU campus this past weekend to participate in the Columbus regional of The Opening, where he produced a SPARQ score of 100.89, which is in the 99th percentile of scores in the 2016 class this year.

Speaking with Scout's Josh Newkirk, Farrell indicated that he was down to four schools — Ohio State, Michigan State, Boston College and Penn State. He also holds offers from Wisconsin, Michigan and Yale.

Farrell has visited all of his finalists, including Ohio State about a half dozen times.

A decision could be coming soon considering how much he has seen of his finalists.

MSU just offered another TE for '16. I think they see the writing on the wall. ND is still the offer that concerns me most.

Same. I think Luke would be committed already if we didn't have both Hawkins and Hausmann in the same class already. And ND does a very good job of showcasing the TE position. I still like where we are at but I think we will get some stiff competition from ND.

They have a TE already committed also and possibly lead for another highly rated guy. Plus, they really didn't come through with the offer until late. I get that they are a threat, but I really think he's going to be a Buckeye.

Hawkins has also dropped weight to under 220 for his senior season so there is more evidence that he's not going to be a true TE and could end up being more like Noah Brown and never playing inline. Not sure he's going to really be competing with Farrell for the same role.

I'd have Boston College as the dark horse - their guys are confident they have a shot. Outside of OSU/ND they are the only school I'd give a shot but would still say 65/30/5 the good guys win out.
ND is out of the running, they apparently have decided not to take a TE in '16 and will take two in '17.

At least that's the speculation after '17 prospect Brock Wright committed.

Only question is did ND decide this before or after Farrell told them he wasn't going there.

It will be interesting to see what they do...they told Dotson they were only taking one TE and thus didn't have room to make an offer but then turned around and offered Cole Kmet (sp?) shortly after despite having Brock Wright committed.

Farrell is absolutely a top remaining target for the Buckeyes, a point that was reiterated to me this afternoon after that list published. Yes, people around the WHAC are reading and paying attention.
[...]
"He's as important as Hausmann to the class."
[...]
Farrell will be in attendance for Friday Night Lights, but I wouldn't expect him to work out.
[...]
The plan has been to commit in early August, and I expect him to follow through with that.
