TE Marcus Baugh (Birmingham Stallions)

Tight end Marcus Baugh commits to Ohio State

Riverside (Calif.) tight end Marcus Baugh had plenty of interest in Ohio State ever since the school extended an offer to him recently and the fact that he had family in the area made leaving home to play in Columbus not much of an issue. The Buckeyes coaching staff had been recruiting him hard the past two weeks and all the factors surrounding the talented pass catcher's recruitment culminated on Tuesday with a commitment to the program.

?There are a lot of reasons why I committed to Ohio State but coach (Urban) Meyer was a big one," Baugh told Scout. He's a great coach and has always had great success using the tight end. I want to be the next Aaron Hernandez, I think I play a similar game and that's how they plan to use me."

The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder held several offers from programs around the Pac-12, Tennessee, Miami and others but got the one he was looking for in Ohio State. Baugh has impressed over the past few weeks at the Las Vegas New Level 7-on-7 and Los Angeles Nike Camp, giving the Buckeyes a player who has shined against some of the top competition in the country.

"I'm kind of like a hybrid," Baugh told CBSSports.com. "I'm pretty much a big receiver but I can block along the line. I can pretty much do whatever a receiver can."

Baugh caught 30 passes for 528 yards and seven scores last season as a junior. He becomes the eighth commitment for Ohio State's class of 2013 and first from the state of California.

"He can run as well as any TE in the state," analyst Tom Lemming said. "He has been used as both a TE and WR because of that speed and is also a big-time prospect at LB. He should fill out to 250 pounds, and if he can keep his speed, look out. He was used more as a blocker on offense playing on a run oriented team but shows quick enough feet to effectively block out on the second level."

Scout $ - Marcus Baugh pulls the trigger

4/10

By Biggins....Says he committed for multiple reasons, but the big one was Urban Meyer. Loves the tradition at Ohio State & has family in the area. Hasn't visited Ohio State since he was 12, but plans on visiting over the summer.

Talent-wise watching his film, he reminds me a lot of Jake Stoneburner or Louis Irizarry... A TE that runs, shakes, and catches like a WR. Marcus looks to be a great fit for what is coming with this offense.

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Marcus!!

That description is more like Kellen Winslow, imo. Baugh seems to have speed like a wr, like Winslow. Stoneburner seemed like a possession wr, but fast for the TE position, he doesn't have shakes like that though imo. Baugh and Winslow are very athletic TEs who can also play wr.
