TE Marcus Baugh (Birmingham Stallions)

What an amazing get and very surprising. Safe to say UFM is the man. I know Baugh is rated high, but I still feel he is underrated...I would put him right up there with Breneman as a borderline 5 star. Yes, he is that good. Plus he is going to be an ideal fit into the new offense. Welcome aboard Marcus! :osu:

Will be a special offensive talent if his commitment sticks.

Is this speculation that belongs in the rumor mill? Or is there solid information that gives you reason to doubt the commitment?
No rumor, just looking at the fact he's from the west coast, hasn't visited campus, as of a week ago he said he wasn't near narrowing his list down, and the potential that SC could offer. Long way til signing day, that's all.

That description is more like Kellen Winslow, imo. Baugh seems to have speed like a wr, like Winslow. Stoneburner seemed like a possession wr, but fast for the TE position, he doesn't have shakes like that though imo. Baugh and Winslow are very athletic TEs who can also play wr.

You say tomAto, I say tomAHHto.

It's hard for me to compare Marcus to Winslow because I only got to see the soldier himself play in one game in college (as I'm sure many can also attest to). He was on a whole different level than anyone I've ever seen play the position in college. All I can say is if Marcus can do that in a ball game, I'd like to see the other kids ranked higher than him.

INCREDIBLE SNAG out of left field! Kinda makes me feel bad if McNeil (who I think is out now) really planned to commit to tOSU down the road. Proof that it pays to verbal early and lock up that spot. Welcome aboard Marcus!

Yeah, no worries. Just a discussion piece, and one heck of a comparison. I personally watched a lot of Miami games because I went to school in VA and they were the best tram on the eastern sea board, and the stuff Winslow did was at times incredible, especially after following a beast in shockey. Baugh should be terrific in our new offense and im sure urban showed him that. And that he could be our aaron Hernandez down the road.

"Meyer is just a great coach," Baugh told 247Sports. "I want to be the next Aaron Hernandez in his offense. I love the tradition at Ohio State and I just felt like I was ready to commit."

Baugh has only visited Ohio State once and that came a few years ago when he was visiting his aunt who lives in Reynoldsburg. Despite that, he felt comfortable committing to the school.

"I talked to the coaches at my school yesterday," Baugh said. "Then I talked to my parents. I've always loved Ohio State. In the end if I waited until after the season I would have still picked Ohio State. So I decided I wanted to commit now."

?Distance doesn?t really matter to me,? Baugh said. ?I love the Ohio State tradition and love the Horseshoe and have always wanted to play in the Horseshoe.?

It also helps that he won?t be without relatives when he leaves Riverside, Calif., for Columbus. Baugh said his mother?s twin sister, Debra Newsome, lives in Reynoldsburg.

?We?re pretty close,? he said. ?All my cousins texted me and told me how excited they were.?

Playing in Urban Meyer?s spread offense added to the appeal.

?Coach Meyer has a history with tight ends, and I want to be the next Aaron Hernandez,? Baugh said.

Buckeye Commit #8 Marcus Baugh

Following recruitment offers its ups and downs, and sometimes, plenty of surprises. On this day, April 10th, 2012, it was no different. As most of us were formulating guesses about who the next commit would be in the class of 2012, nobody would have guessed Riverside, California tight end Marcus Baugh. But in fact, he became the 8th member of the Buckeyes' class of 2013 to commit. Last season Baugh became more important to his school's offense and played an integral part in his school's passing game. His junior season did not go unnoticed as the tight end racked up offers from top-tier programs such as Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Florida, Miami, California, Ole Miss, and of course, Ohio State. This evening Baugh pledged his commitment to Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes.

"I received an Ohio State offer a few weeks ago", said the newest commit. "I grew up an Ohio State fan so I was ecstatic about the offer and kept in touch with the staff. Coach Hinton was the one who informed me of my offer. I have a cousin that lives in the area of the school so I have been there before to see the family. I actually went and saw an Ohio State basketball game when I was younger."
