Lane Kiffin, FAU: No, this is not meant to be an attempt at a troll. It's an attempt to talk some sense into the folks at Rocky Top.

Get over the burn you still feel from Kiffin's one year in 2009, and at least consider him.

Sure, the NCAA issues he left behind, the abrupt nature in which he departed and his brash -- and sometimes overwhelming -- personality was a lot to deal with then, but there's no doubt that he's matured as a head coach now.

He has FAU at 6-0 in Conference USA and 7-3 overall, and has proven not only through his time in Boca Raton this year but as Alabama's offensive coordinator from 2014-16 that he's an offensive genius.

Kiffin left Knoxville abruptly for his dream job at USC in January 2010, and tried to be honest with the fans in one of the most awkward press conferences in recent memory. Would you rather have him leave in the middle of the darkness without saying anything? USC was his dream job, they called and -- while its own NCAA issue made it a tough place to win during his time there -- he had to take the one shot he had at it.

At least hear him out. You don't have to hire him. Just hear him out.

I’ve talked to numerous Vol fans and they all scoff at the idea of hiring Mullen or a group of 5 coach. It has to be Gruden or Fuente and they might settle for Chip Kelly. This fanbase is delusional. The fact is that UT, while not where they want to be, is in a much better place after Butch’s tenure. What it is not, however, is a premier coaching destination. Not yet anyway. Gruden isn’t coming and neither are any of the elite CFB coaches, e.g. Urban, Saban, etc.

Dan Mullen would be awesome for them and they don’t want him :rofl:.

Also, Lane Kiffin is amazing (even if I have drawn a thousand dicks in pictures of him.)

For the life of me, I can't come up with one compelling reason for Gruden to leave a well-paid, cushy MNF gig to go try to revive a dead program with a delusional fanbase. Additionally, as a coach, is he really all that great? His last 5-6 years in Tampa weren't anything to write home about. On top of that, he has very little college coaching experience. Does he really want to leave the booth to deal with recruiting, etc.?

Replacing Butch Jones: Breaking Down Tennessee's Potential Head Coach Candidates

Usual candidates.

bla...bla...bla....bla...bla...bla...bla...bla...bla

One other wild-card candidate is Ohio State DC Greg Schiano. He made Rutgers respectable after years of ineptitude. He’s very smart, is extremely organized and has picked up some good things from his time under Urban Meyer. He interviewed for the USC vacancy a couple of years ago and has turned down some other decent head coaching opportunities in the past year-plus. I’m told there is some interest in him.
